    Hey fellow truckers!

I’m currently exploring Over-the-Road, cross border opportunities in Ontario and am looking for recommendations on reputable trucking companies. I’m particularly interested in companies that offer decemt pay, maintain reliable equipment, and can keep me running. Don't mind staying away from home.

If you’ve had any experiences—whether positive or negative—with OTR companies in Ontario, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts. Any insights you can share would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure where you're located in Ontario but it South Western Ontario in Ayr, ON Mill Creek is a good company and Trans-Frt McNamara Inc isn't bad. To ne completely honest though most have fallen wayside lacking integrity on trying to keep their numbers up and business afloat. Use 'Caution' when applying and read the Indeed & Google comments from othet drivers. 90% tell the truth regarding the culture of the company.

I work for the mother ship of Mill creek and i hate to say it but i don’t think he will make a lot of money working for them . You’re right about checking out reviews on each company and not just looking at advertised pay . If you do that get ready to be depressed , it seems like there isn’t any decent companies to work for and it’s always management problems if you read reviews on each company it seems

Erb a decent company but they do have driver facing cameras , there’s not lot of good paying decent companies hiring right now in southern Ontario especially the Toronto area . trust me i’m looking on indeed every week and it’s the same companies advertising. It’s ether indian trucking companies, low paying , way outside of the gta or the companies have crappy reviews

Don’t work for kriska what ever you do .they don’t have the freight right now and local drivers are getting unpaid days off this week because of usa thanksgiving . You will be lucky to make 65k a year with them also . I’ve been here since 2012 and my income always between 55-62k. no joke , new drivers don’t stick around here because they don’t get the miles and it’s gotten worse the last few years as competition increases in the gta area

Kriska I heard from my former neighbor was a good company when I still lived in the GTA. When connecting with a few Brokers and Dispatchers I found out they operate their own loadboard freight and parent company for a bunch including Mill Creek. I only mentioned Mill Creek when I was going to lease my truck on with them back in the summer of 2023. The Saftey/Trainer was alright, actually had a decent personality and explained things on point. However, you're right about Ontario's lack of Good Trucking companies that are profitable & operate sufficiently they're far from few.

I work for them , they are a good company as far as being treated good, not forced to do anything you don’t want to including coming into work during a snow storm or if you’re sick . New equipment, the problem is the work is so up and down throughout the year that you can’t make any money. the other problem is they pay low

Still a good company to work for and there’s drivers with 20+ years of service but your chances of making over 65k as a company driver are very slim

Trans-Frt McNamara went bankrupt, and got bought out by CAT, (along with Penner and a few others) just before I quit freight, we were hiring their drivers and dispatchers, because CAT was offering them Minimum Wage to continue working there. The O/O's were making .80cpm to the truck, when they jumped ship to my outfit. CAT has driver facing camera's in all their trucks and subsidiary's trucks.

I'm told Ayr and J&R Hall are teetering on bankruptcy, and they are having a driver exodus, as guys are waiting 7-10 days on either end of a trip for a load. I know the J&R Hall day cabs in Calgary, only work 3 days a week, and are usually back in the yard parked for 3pm. The companies with the most work in general freight right now (allegedly), are Titanium Transport and TEAMS Transport, but expect to be pushed to the limit with both of them, and they also have driver facing camera's.

Whow, I never knew this. I applied there back in early summer because the carrier I was lease to lost a few good contract unfortunately. So, they couldn't keep me on. When I was applying to a few in that area I spoke to their Safety who seemed cool, and told me 'Yes' they're hiring not Only drivers but O/o's as well. Unfortunately, I did bother because they wanted O/O's out for 14 to 21 days @ $1.30 cpm plus their Fsc. I got another short stint before running my own authority again.

Ironically, J&R Hall is another company I never dealt with until picking up a 3rd party load for that 2nd stint company I did some work for early fall. One kid on the dock told me they're hiring and never had problems with driver mention. Unfortunately, I'm a O/o so, they only hire drivers. From the looks of their yard, you would never know they are teetering on bankruptcy.

They have a Recruiter there that either lacks common sense or doesn't care to reveal that they hide rate cons. Plus it seems their Brokage division does some shady stuff Titanium Transportation Group Inc. Google Maps
Just one example of many. For me, comments like these spoke volumes Titanium Transportation Group Inc. Google Maps and shows the culture of a company. Allegedly, they're undercutting many others in the process of growing as a company and growing to fast for a short period of time. Drivers need to be aware of these types deals so they aren't left hanging while starting the work week then seeing a sign on the gate that's locked.
This speaks volumes about their culture Titanium Transportation Group Inc. Google Maps

Yea, J&R Hall never stops hiring, my LTL company found our forever home down the road from them a year before I quit freight. I got to see the constant hiring/trucks sitting/LCV's going single etc etc daily. We even approached them to kind of spread some LTL around, or help each other out with city volumes, and they straight up told us to piss off. Then started following our Day cabs around, trying to steal customers. In the end, they did get some BC/Ontario runs off us, but at rates that were below break even.

I figured Titanium was doing shady #### to steal work, they're way to busy for the condition the industry is in. CAT is doing the same thing, while abusing their O/O's and drivers like crazy.

Cat bought Warren Gibson Limited of Alliston too which i’m shocked at but I also know there was lots of fighting amongst the kids of the founder of the company so maybe everyone had enough and wanted out . I remember when I started back in 2008 J&R Hall was a hard company to get hired onto . They wanted something like 5 years experience and you had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get hired . Crazy times we live in now

There’s a big difference in reputation between J&R Hall in Ayr and in Western Canadian. It’s almost like a different company out here.

Same goes for quite a few others. (PDI Bulk, Samuel Steel, Contrans, to name a few).
