Riding Bikes

Nope, didn’t have time to get one in. I got a thirty mile ride in last Sunday though after you told me to bump up my mileage.

 

My goal is to bike 20 miles Saturday, then squeeze out 35 to 40 miles Sunday. Sunday might be tough since that’s my long run day for marathon training. But I will figure it out and post it.

 

I finally did it. Dropped my ebike off at home and switched to my newly fixed up Montague Navigator. I got this thing 8 years ago and when I finally started riding it again the headset clamp just wouldn't stay tight. Now I've got a threadless stem on a new fork and hydraulic brakes to boot. Just need to dial in the stack height. Did my first ride on it in a while to go get Chinese food and it was a stupid climb that I was dreading when I drove down it to my stop. Honestly not bad, especially now that I'm confident standing to climb. We need more bikes in trucks. Next up I'm installing new cartridge bearing wheels to finally be rid of cups and cones.

 

Yesterday was the 70 mile ride that I signed up for. I showed up, but reading is hard and I made a right turn when I was to make a left and that shortened the ride by 25 miles. Needless to say I was extremely ticked off. So today, knowing where I made my mistake, I went back to get revenge. I feel pretty good, and will stretch and foam roll the legs.

 

Very cool! Still just using the watch for HR?

 

Yeah I am because it pairs up with that bike GPS since it’s the same brand. I still wear my Whoop on my left bicep because I don’t even notice it there. Both readings seem to be fairly consistent with each other. I did notice that if I don’t have my watch tight, it won’t be accurate. I sometimes loosen the watch to make it a little more comfortable.

 

Interest in bikes must be slowing significantly. I have driven past a particular pawn shop a couple times a week the last couple years. Every now and then there'd be a lone bike sitting in their parking lot for sale and it'd usually be gone in a week or 2. Ever since this spring there's over half a dozen sitting there and it's been the same half dozen for a couple months.

One of the local powersports dealers has been sitting on a used Harley for at least 2 years now as well. Been debating going in and lowballing the heck out of them just to see if they'll take the L to get it out of their inventory.

 

All the pawn shops around here have nothing but junk. I've spent a little time looking for one, and the good rosd bikes around here are still selling pretty quick, mountain bikes don't last at all.

 

I don't ride enough to justify another bike so I haven't looked too closely at the pawn shop bikes. They do look pretty clean and looked after from what I can see from 30 feet away when I catch the red light.

 

When I took my bike in for a quick check up before the big ride, the owner was talking about how everything has shifted to the E-Bike side. He is a Trek dealer, but only had three true road bikes on the shelf. He said the vast sales they have are E-Bikes and then hybrid bikes. However, he did say they are busier than heck doing tune ups and repairs on bikes. Like a few weeks out.
