no way a car could do that to a rig. He mustve swerved heavy to avoid killing the guy and it cost him his life. The only thing I will ever do is hammer down on the brakes and keep the truck straight. IF the person dies, then they die. I wouldn't risk rolling the truck over and me dying on the account of someone not paying attention. Unless of course that car hit one of the steer tires and snapped something causing the wreck. Who knows. just sayin

If the car was going 60 and t-boned the steer the driver would more than likely have no control over what happened next.

Since when does a Civic of maybe 1000 ponds have the mass to take out a 80000 pound truck? Only thing I can think is the car hit at 150 mph by running a stop sign. Stinks for all involved

    RIP driver.

I while my time watching compilation videos of accidents. It's pretty amazing how quickly a truck can lose control with a side hit from a car. Even a glancing blow from a car going the same general direction as a truck, like an unexpected lane change on the freeway or bouncing off a guardrail and ricocheting into the steers, can make things go haywire in a hurry.

I won't even hammer down on the brakes. I'll brake in a controlled manner. Dynamiting the brakes is just as dangerous as leaving your lane in an attempt to avoid a collision.

Actually that generation of Honda Civic weighs from 2600 to 2900 pounds(and they’ve only been getting heavier ever since). Another thing to consider is the road conditions. New York State (along with the rest of the East Coast) has been recovering from a recent snowstorm so some of the roads aren’t exactly 100 percent, so there may have been ice or packed snow that wasn’t plowed up.

    bigguns and Lepton1 Thank this.

I usually just assume that any cross-traffic approaching an intersection is going to proceed through regardless of what's polite, legal, or safe, and drive accordingly. I am often proved right, especially by people who don't think that signs and signals ought to be obeyed when making right turns.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
