This is a small rural community with a population of little over 400. This company has flipped through so many name changes, that they have over 100 alias listed on most the lawsuits for judgement of money are using all alias names to be included. No they can't make you cheat on log books, and they can't make you buy a truck. Most of the drivers that started working for them were new drivers, some of them had never driven for any other company in this area. What a driver can't do is go out on several runs back and forth to Fort Wayne and Iowa for two weeks hauling trailers for them and then be told he doesn't get paid since they changed the policies on dead head miles while he was out there and they no longer pay anything for dead head. What a driver can't do anything about is all the additives, scales, etc...tolls he paid that he sent receipts in as he always did for 2 years and find out that they also decided not to pay them because he did not get approval for that in advance which they also changed the policies on while he was out there those two weeks. What a driver can't do when he gets back without a paycheck for two weeks and finds out he owes tolls and other payments normally covered by the usual policies, that all of a sudden changed while he was out there without notice of any kind, is now be told the only way he can keep his job with this company is to buy a truck from them, because they feel that the company drivers are sabatoging their equipment because it's not theres. The driver can find the door, and in our case, he did, but he was so caught off guard by this that it took some time to find another job, and had to collect unemployment, in our case we were lucky, a week after we left, 10 other drivers found in the same situation were not able to collect unemployment, because the owners said they quit and or were fired, to avoid paying out unemployment benefits. This company has hurt a small rural community that doesn't have a lot of options for employment and this owner employed a great deal of this community in their office, shops, and on the road drivers. It has left a bad taste in our mouths, many of these people were left without jobs, and are scrambling to get through this. I believe this is one reason so much is being said about this company and because of the bonds that rural communities share and how many people have truly been hurt and lost money and had to struggle. We are just now finding out how crooked this company was. The owner moved out here after serving time in prison in Iowa. He has done this kind of crap before, under several name changes, but this community was not that aware of the problems he was to put upon them in his dealings and some of them have paid dearly. He is not going to stop doing this crap, unless something is done on a criminal basis, so far all his court records are about money judgements, intentional tort, but no criminal. Even then, he served time in prison before he got to Blue River, and still managed to relocate from Iowa and start his business over again. I think it has to somehow become a criminal offense. just to slow this Wessels down. I don't know. I also believe Darrell Wessels is mentally ill, bipolar something, just too unstable of a person. When the heat is on him he passes that heat onto his son and daughter, wife or other family members, it's just a real dysfunctional family and a very sad and painful as well as emotional and financial bad experience for these new drivers and this rural community that worked for him.
