You like speaking of the psychology of stuff.

You're driving along in traffic. The traffic ahead slows. If you hit the restricted lane for a short time you will, at best, get a few vehicles ahead in that line of traffic. The end result will be a gain of a matter of seconds. Think about the psychology that leads to risking a ticket for such little potential gain. Now think about what you look like to the rest of the motoring public when you start laying on the horn and the brights, something that will provide no gain.

You need to think big picture. A few seconds or a few minutes gained today means nothing in the long term. Time, money and a mark on your driving record are a different story.

Drive with your head, not your heart.

You make a very human and very common mistake in assumption here: That the other guy has a clue what is going on. Mr. Magoo in that car does not likely have any awareness of the risk he is engaging in.

Cars cut in front of trucks all the time as you approach stop lights, each one taking up 20' of the space you budgeted for getting your rig stopped safely. None of them could conceive of the idea that they are gambling with their lives in doing this. You in that truck are just another obstacle in the path to their destination, they don't understand and don't care what you have to do to safely operate that truck.

That is why you have to be a professional. You have to keep Mr. Magoo and company as safe as you can by driving safely and professionally and letting them go about their business. This is hard to keep in mind sometimes, but we are not in competition out on the road.
