I drove by after the police had arrived but before he was covered. I’ll never get that image out of my head. This man has repaired tires for me and performed a PM on my truck at the Petro/TA in York Nebraska.

Sounds like a tragic accident and I really don’t feel the truck driver deserves anymore than the guilt he’ll feel for the remainder of his days.

Man that is tough. Yet the service tech should have made the driver aware he was under there.

    RIP.

Take keys from truck, they’re the last thing to be handed back when the job is done.

    Very sad.

I try and imagine the things that had to happen for this tragedy to happen, but I can’t figure it out. And there were two techs there? You’d think one would have kept a passive check on the other and was even only subconsciously monitoring the situation with the truck and driver.

Maybe the repairs were going on underneath the rear of the trailer and as the techs were finishing up paperwork in their vehicle he looked up and saw a tool he left under then went to retrieve it just as the trucker was pulling out?

That’s exactly what I was thinking, a last minute tool retrieval. I thought it was the driver who was hit until I saw this article earlier today.

My thoughts too - I know tools aren’t cheap, but I’d rather see one run over.

I always remind myself, only takes a second and a lapse of judgement.

Awful call for the family that night.

And ALWAYS drivers, PLEASE, change lanes for the vehicle on the shoulder. This may involve almost coming to a stop, or delaying your journey by 30 seconds.
