In reponse to lookingtotruck, I was not intending to be critical. My point was that he might have burned some bridges. I have not worked in trucking for nearly 30 years (drove for several years in the late 70s). I also have not yet decided if I want to go back to it. However, I was the owner of a manufacturing company that employed about a dozen drivers and contracted with carriers for a few thousand loads a year, so I know how company executives will react to the type of letter that he wrote. He may have served himself better to not have written it. He also might have given it some more time, if for no other reason than to not get himself blackballed or limiting himself only to getting hired at the most undesirable companies.

This guy obviously needs to find another desk job. 20 years in an office and he quits trucking after what, a month? Suprise!
I have experienced alot of the same frustrations he has at Roehl. The trailer issue is crap, because in orientation there is a nice segment about "legalizing the load" and what to do if there is no scale at the shipper. Shoulda paid more attention.
I have my problems with Roehl, but after talking to other drivers........we have it SO good here. I stand with my jaw hanging down after hearing what other drivers at other companies have to put up with. After listening to thier stories, I just go back to my truck and tell myself it might not be that bad after all.......... -
I think the original poster needs to write Rick Roehl another letter. This time apologizing for the length of the first one. Mr Roehl probably has a few things on his plate and little time to read novels from a disgruntled driver who brought many of the issues on himself due to failing to follow company guidelines. In the future, keep your letters concise and to the point. Painfully detailing every experience you had on the road in a gripe letter is only going to ensure said letter ends up in the trash.

the only place roehl is hyped is on this message board. the original poster had the nerve to voice his opinion and expect to not be slammed??? wrong message board pal!!! no roehl complaints allowed here.
-
I've never worked for Roehl, but the man that introduced me to trucking has a cousin, who, straight out of jail, joined Roehl and stayed w/them well past his first year. For all I know he may still be there.
What does that tell me about Roehl? They have opportunity.
The original poster POSTED NOTHING THAT IMPRESSED ME AGAINST ROEHL.
Sounds to me like he had a bad few weeks and quit. Man that means absolutely nothing. -
This poster, along with Keith's, has shaken my view of Roehl some, so I'm having some second thoughts about 'em. However, I'd still go with them. This is because I know they can't be as bad as somebody like C.R. England Ad, SwiftQuit, or JB JobHunt yet.
But they may be on the way down, so who knows how long I'd be with them if I did hire on. It'd probably be a while, as they'd have to fall a long way to be on the same level as "See Our England Ad". -
WOW!!!!
I love ya'lls feedback. Man I was looking for a good company to go to. I just passed my road test from Dekalb Tech for my CDL License and missed out on seeing the Roehl recruiter that came to the school this morning. (went to get my license). Listening to this form makes me say. I thing I wanna roll with Roehl. I had Averett on the brain, but I wasnt sure they would give me the miles. -
Be smart on your job search. Look around at smaller companies. Some of the little companies treat drivers well, offer benefits, and will even hire a newbie. Just don't go reefer with one of these little guys. Those are some of the worst in trucking. Also, do NOT find your company through a daily newspaper ad or any other slick advert.

I just started with Roehl - finished orientation as an experienced driver. I am ready to leave.
My buddy who hired on with them in July is quitting. The driver's I talked to in Marshfield all had the same story. No miles.
It is all hype. You will be sitting at shippers, consignees, and truckstops - right next to the JB Hunt drivers. Crime in Italy, JB Hunt at least pays you $20 for every drop, hook, and dock you touch. Plus they pay 8-cents more a mile. In these days of declining miles the only thing to look at is cents per mile. 2000 miles a week at Roehl = $640. At JB it's $800. Plus JB's bennies are less expensive. Same goes with Schneider. Don't get me wrong - I am not a JB Apologist - I read all the stuff on this board about them and decided not to work for them. Everytime a JB recruiter calls (sometimes twice a day), I tell him/her that their reputation is so BAD that I am not interested.
But this rant is about ROEHL......
Right now, I am so po'd at myself for going to ROEHLMy wife is gonna cut my N#tz off when I tell her I am quitting this job. I'll give 'em a month. If I end up with the same lousy paycheck's, I'm gone.
I know my buddy who swayed me to Roehl isn't a schmuck driver. He's not one to hang in truck stops, whine, or run out of hours. His end came getting stuck in Plattsburgh, NY over Labor Day weekend. Did his drop Sunday morning. He was immediately dispatched 180 miles down the road for a load that didn't deliver until TUESDAY. The delivery was scheduled for 5AM unload, he got out of there at 12:30! When he told me this, I about cancelled my travel plans to Marshfield. Wednesday he called me. His DSR said they were 40-loads short for the 7-3/4 drivers! In total, he got 1800 miles for the week - had 36 hours of logged driving time. I called him every name in the book for getting me into this MESS.
Roehl gives a nice pitch, but in the end it is all BS - plus you don't get the details until you get to orientation. There are numerous strings for EVERYTHING they advertise - especially their bonus plans. 5-Star Pay Program my ***. It's 5 different ways to screw you.
At this point I am starting to think that Schneider is the only large carrier worth a ****.
I hope this helps you on your decision to Roll with Roehl. But remember it's pronounced RAIL - you will either get Railed up the ... or railroaded.
Good Luck! Also you will see they have been keeping new drivers in EVO III for months at a time. It's all horse****.

I had many weeks when I worked there 3500+ and a few real low miles. Its all part of the game, you gotta get along with your dispatcher( might be hard) he will make or break you. I had a good one for a while, hes no longer there, but he go me the miles with good loads. Never tell them on the QC you have no hours available when empty on your empty call. That helps
