Ok it’s been a a while but I finally got an in frame kit(CPL 160) for the small cam Cummins. Completely tore apart, with cam removed so that the timing can be changed. Going from 217(290hp) to 160(350hp). What’s the best way to remove the gear from the cam and is there any way I should mark the existing location? I’ve mentioned a new cam key to my local Cummins and these guys are absolutely no help. I’ve not got the CPL manual with me at the moment but I think, I’m going from -.50 to -.35.

20 ton shop press
It goes off like a gun shot. To put it back on heat the gear in the oven at 500 for an hour and it will drop back on
Don't really need to mark it. Just make sure it's not reversed when it goes back on
The CPL book should give you a part number for the new cam keyspsauerland, pup, baha and 1 other person Thank this. -
I used time small cam 350 Cummins engine at .041" they started better with
less smoke at cold start up. Do you have access to a timing tool?mile marker 27 and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
Press as RocketScott said, then warm it up in the oven so it’s even temperature all over. Have your cam secured and shove it in place, make sure not to pull on it till it’s cooled down.
Make sure you have your key in place….mile marker 27 Thanks this. -
Not sure I have the info you need on the timing but I will look in my Cummins book….

I could probably be done with two mag base dial indicators.
One directly on the piston and the other in the injector push tube.
