I would really appreciate your help planning my first route thru the NE avoiding tolls and I will need cheap cash price of diesel also.

Route from Akron, OH to Portland, ME. 79,500lbs in an 18 wheeler van. I go there and back and will need fuel.

    Thanks!

76 e to 80 e to 81n to 84 to 290 to 495 etc, can't think of a single toll until maine. You can run route 1 in Maine to avoid 95 toll

Nope.....Back out he'll pay I-84 bridge..Annnnnd, You forgot the small portion of I-90 in Mass..Unless he hits us20....

I spent many hours pounding my skull in for many years trying to figure out the free-ride out east..They have it so scientifically structured where its almost like "Putting out a T-bone steak cooked to perfection and you haven't eaten in 7 days" To use the toll roads....

Here's a better 1..... Get me to Wilmintgton Delaware Leaving Chicago for "Free".... In a convenient sort of way.

Lets see who can outsmart the "smart@sses That strategically set up the toll system out east.

Oh BTW.... Minimal traffic lights and Minimal Towns are a must.

This is my favorite little 2 Truck diesel pump
Speedway on US-1 in North Brunswick, NJ
    $1.58/gal now for #2 diesel

Can you remember the cheapest Truck Stop diesel on the route you recommended?

    From Akron:
I-76 east to OH-11 north, to I-90 east, to I-86/NY-17 east, to I-81 north for a mile or two, to I-88 north. Exit I-88 at exit 24, get on US-20 at the Duanesburg exit. Follow to I-87 north. Exit I-87 onto route 7 east (Troy/Cohoes), into VT, to Route 9. Follow this through NH to I-89 south to I-93 north, to I-393/US 202 east. Follow US-202 into Maine, to I-295 to Portland.

That's a 14+ hour ride in a loaded truck, at least. It isn't the best route, it'll burn a lot of fuel, it is dang sure not the fast route, but you won't ping a single toll.

You are going to get dinged on tolls in NH and ME no matter what, unless you really want to drive out of your way to avoid them.

I personally hate I-80 with a Passion, so I would go North from Akron (71-271-90) and take 90 to the PA/NY border and hit 86 East. 86 to 88 up to 90 again, pay that toll to get to 87n, then hit 7 going east. 7 becomes 9, I run it heavy with an underpowered truck pulling tanker, theres some 8% grades and good twists and turns but its fine. Real scenic. Take 9 to 202 to I89 to I93 and get back on 202 (bypasses Concord) and run 202 all the way up to Gorham ME and then cut east on 25 or 114 into Portland.

Usually when I feel like avoiding Mass I take 9 to keene then 101 through Manchester and hook up to 95 just south of Portsmouth. 101 is a toll road.
