7 mpg, 195.00 for a 100 gallons of gas, on average at current fuel prices. I paid 2.35 in California. I'm just averaging fuel prices to 2.00 a gallon. This load had my 314.00 expenses come out, so it didn't pay for my fixed expenses. I still have to pay 180.00 to break even out of my next load. In retrospect, I shouldn't have paid 2.35 for fuel in CA. I saw places on ca99 with fuel under 2.00. The laziness Flying J bug got a hold of me.
No doubt. Another problem with these trucks, at least the Kenworths, are the freaking gas gauges. They drive me up a wall. They are not accurate by a long shot. I asked at Kenworth and they said that's normal for all the Kenworth trucks. And when I say not accurate, I mean it. And it's not consistent inaccuracy, it varies widely. At least with consistent inaccuracy, you can kind of figure it out. I drove in to where I'm at with my fuel gauge show less than zero, and it had been that way for 200 miles. I started the 600 miles trip showing having over 3/4 of a tank when I put about 110 gallons in that tanks. And, since I can't trust either my qualcomm or my dash readings for fuel mileage, I feel like I'm driving blind on fuel. My qualcomm seems to randomly reset at odd times. Sometimes it will show my fuel usage for two days or more, and other times it seems to reset right in the middle of a trip. Even assuming it's exactly accurate on fuel usage, it's hard to use as a reliable measure. What I mean about inconsistent inaccuracy is that occasionally I've had it work correctly. It shows 3/4 of a tank and it took me 50 gallon to refill. Other times, I've has it show a low fuel light and it took me 100 gallons to fill. I've had it show below zero and it took me 120 gallons to fill. I've had it show 3/4 and it took me 20 gallons to fill. All over the map. I fill it to the top sometimes and it hangs there for 200 miles...other times it drop to a half in 200 miles.
Muy cascadia has issues with gauges as well. I have pen and paper and know i average 7.5 so with my tanks 110*2 means with the 220 gallons I can run 1650 miles on a full set of tanks. I usually cap off at 1300 so i never worry about being stranded. I never look at my fuel gauge anymore. I use an app called Fuel Log on android phone but there are tons of those apps on market places. Or you can do old pen and paper like my trainer did when i was first driving, He had a little notebook went back 20 years of fuel and costs.
So i'm assuming you guys always top off? I'm in the habit of only topping off on long trips at the beginning. I'll look into that app. Thx
I like to keep it full. especially winter time. i will ocassiably put 50 gallonss in to get me to a cheaper fill up but the apps take that into account. Dont chase the fuel. if you know you are going to drop on a thurs then dont fill up till you get new load but dont just 50 gallon here and there. all the start and stop negates the savings. IMHO
man 4 hours so far at sysco in las vegas and still here. ive been mty for a few hours but the ppw is killing me.
Are those typical? Without knowing all the particulars they seem a little low. From the 1st of the year, and are typical: EBITA...........MILES(ish) $1426............3270 $1030............2530 .$553…..........1668 .$795..............2844 $1633.....…....3640 $1044.............3490 -$271..............0 Broke down for one week $1483.............3797 By my request I pay $0.12cpm into maintenance. EBITA in finance is Earnings Before Interest Taxes and Amortization. So no tax, health or other personal deductions so as to make an even baseline. Not boasting, because I think I make poverty wages, but I've heard a few guy throw numbers like yours and just wondering. TA
