I’ve been driving for over 2 years now and haven’t driven truck with so much rust. I’m thinking of buying this truck, I just don’t know much about it because the dealer just got it in and they are getting ready to do the 28 point used truck inspection etc. As for the rust it’s gonna cost me another $800 to get it sandblasted and prepped. Is there a major problem with the rust from the pics that I took ? It’s a 2016 FL with 425k miles on it.
Rust ?

None of that looks bad. Drive it.

That’s what a average Canadian truck looks like after 6 months of winter.

How do truck builders get away with the shake can frame paint on a 200k new truck.
Its like building a new house and using hay bales for the foundation.
There are better coatings now that would eliminate this issue.Danny707 Thanks this. -
Wow $800 is a steal!

Oops I looked a t pics. I would do that myself with wire brushes and paint.$800 for what I am seeing is too much or at least not worth it...yet.
Do it yourself and plan for a blasting/coating in a couple of years IMO.
Heck my best friends 2019 volvo with under 200k is already like that....Concorde, Bean Jr., Brettj3876 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's an easy job right there. Little hand held grinder will take care of that and slap some paint on heavy.
2 years ago we did the whole back end in a weekend

What rust? Save your money. One day, this spring or summer get a drill wire wheel, 2-3 cans of paint. Do it every year, before it ever gets bad. They’ll do a crappy job anyways. All any Shop ever does is spray over rust and grease. Do it right yourself. Or redo what you paid $800 for next year.

Than flap wheel on a 4 inch grinder.
DA sand where there’s no rust for adhesion
Spot sandblaster to hit the previously descaled and grinder area . Cleans up fast and gets that rust out of the pores and aids adhesion
