I have not pulled a load at 1.20 for many years. You must be working at one of the cheap outfits.

 

Sleep in your truck and add .06 per mile to your profit.

 

So what is a good pay rate per mile these days? Other than the pay rate are my other numbers about right as far as expenses go? My understanding is that it is illegal to sleep in a commercial vehicle without a sleeper.

 

As of February 27, 2012, all time spent in a parked commercial vehicle is now classified as off duty time.

 

A different way to look at it I guess (and using 1.30 per mile):
6000 loaded miles per month
12000 driven miles
6000 x 1.30 = 7800
12000 x .34 (no hotel costs) -4080
Net before fixed expenses 3720
Truck payment & Insurance -700
Net after all expenses 3020
Hours driven approx. 220
Net pay per hour 3020/220 = 13.72 hr not including on duty/not driving hours.

 

Where in your expenses did you calculate oil changes , tire replacement , and allowance for things like wheel bearings , brakes , starter , etc. needing to be replaced ? Break down on the road and count on days in a motel waiting for parts.

I don't know who you're hauling for but they probably have more drivers than they need sitting waiting at the terminal . They'll get the loads before someone calling from home .
The fuel prices must be really hurting haulers. One reason I got out of hauling was inadequate FSC and you only get it for loaded miles .

 

Model year change. Things should start picking up again next week.
