Any suggestions for who to go work for?
Just got my Cdl through a company sponsored program and been living up in Michigan the last year and a half but need to get back to Florida to deal with some issues with my dad there.
I'm finding out my recently acquired Cdl is virtually worthless without any experience.
actually had one company that I mentioned in another thread tell me they would not even acknowledge my company Sponsered Cdl training I got from one of the better companies out there.
I could handle over the road if I could get back once a week but don't see that happening.
Wouldn't mind driving a dump truck but don't know if my lack of experience will allow it, even though I used to drive a dump truck on the farm 35 years ago without a Cdl.
Maybe do Roll-offs but seems they all want roll off experience also.
Heck I might be game for driving a garbage truck.
Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately, trucking and Florida isn’t the best combination. You’d think there’d be a ton of jobs down there, but there aren’t. And a lot of other companies won’t hire out of FL or do business there. I was set to move to Tampa back in 2011, but that was one reason I decided against it. Increased cost of living combined with a lesser job market compared to where I am now. Good luck...

Try Comcar in Florida. They have local/regional/OTR and hire new cdl grads.
tommymonza and 123456 Thank this. -
Florida Beauty Express gets some bad press, but it might work for your situation, taking care of your father.
They have box trucks running around South Florida and also have teams running to California and back. The benefit for you is their hometime perk; can take as much time off as you want between trips without fear of losing your job.
Aren't you around Naples?Last edited: Jan 26, 2018

Check with the food hustlers in that area.........they are ALWAYS looking for fresh meat (pun intended). As long as you don't mind 3-4 am start times.

Florida is a bad place for a Driver. Most major carriers will reject your application based on your home zip too. If you really want to live in Florida and use you CDL for a means o live stay as close to route 10 (like around Jacksonville) as possible and/or the Eastern panhandle area like Pensacola. It's a great state and an awesome place to live so if you really want to do it, you'll figure it out. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Problem is my dad is in Naples and my I have a house near by in Bonita springs.
South Florida is in the tropics, much nicer weather in the winter than north Florida.
