Long story short, I got a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt while in operation of a big rig. He said he filed it under federal so it "may" not go against my license. My question is what does this mean and do I still need to report it to my company per fmcs law. Fmcsa only addresses local and state so...... anyone know?

Honesty is the best policy. Plus, we were required to sign a form listing all violations for the year. Didnt matter what level. Yes, they checked.

No offense but in this line of work time and time I have found honesty is :)not the best policy.

Some can get a few demerits for getting seat belt infractions and it does go on your record, part of controlling the load includes the driver.

I don't have a clue what the cop is saying, you get a ticket, it goes on your record.

If it happened with an inspection, then it hits your CSA record.

If you want to know what my number one thing that increases my insurance costs, it isn't a 15 over ticket with a driver but a seat belt violation so many companies look at that as a no-hire flag.

AND I don't find an excuse for not using one.

Ok, did you get a citation? (I.e. a ticket?)
Did you get a violation on a CVSA inspection form?

If neither it was a verbal warning, no harm no foul.
If it was a violation then that is a written warning. Goes on your PSP report and the companies CSA "score" Most companies require notification by policy as it affects them, Ask the company, which is kinda a catch 22 I know.
If you got a citation and violation then don't report it. Fight it in court and see what happens, and report it only once convicted, if needed.
