You are right about lease purchase programs. Many are scams (like Prime, for instance). Sammons wants you to be able to pay the purchase amount off sooner. It helps their success rating.

    lcfd15 Thanks this.

Just finished reading this entire thread and wanted to say that leasing a truck from any Co. should be for the purpose of making more money, challenging yourself, and eventually truelly being independent. Every week should be positive except the weekend you don't get home to your family or the week you have major mechanical problems. Taking on more responsibility for operating a commercial vehicle along with ins, repairs, claims, safety, etc. Should have an incentive for you the L/O.

It's good for someone that wants to OWN a truck as quickly as possible, not for somebody who wants to rake in the most cash as quickly possible.

I for one could care less about owning a truck, a truck is simply a tool to make money... I'd rather be in a program where it's geared towards my bank account above all else.

Once you "pay it off" it already depreciated half way anyway.
Overall though compared to the many flease programs out there this one looks like a safer bet.

None of the fleece programs are a safe bet......that is why they are called FLEECE FURCHASE!! Look if they want to "lease you a truck" like any other normal leasing company you will have your monthly payments. None of this switch and bait shell game tactics that the carriers use. Look if you get your fuel surcharge back its supposed to be yours!!! None of this "it goes to pay down the truck." That is just plain BS on a plate. You should be able to choose where you insure the truck etc etc. The only thing you need to do is make your truck payment without being nickeled and dimed to death.

This is why the OOIDA is rightfully suing the crap out of many of these fleece purchase carriers because they play dirty and take advantage of the drivers and rape their settlements with fees and other charges.

They don't call it fleece purchase, they call it lease purchase. You and people who get way to upset about this topic call it fleece purchase. You mention OOIDA suing "these fleece purchase carriers" while on a Sammons thread. I am a member of OOIDA and read their land line magazine and haven't read anything about them sueing Sammons. You seem very upset about things like the company telling you where you can insure the truck. If you don't like rules like that then don't enter in to the agreement. If people sign up for these agreements then they have to abide by the rules. Why get mad at the company if the driver agreed to the stipulations in the agreement. Some companies may be crooked but painting every lease purchase company with the same brush is unfair and makes all the drivers sound like victims when they agreed to the enter in to the contract of their own free will.

I actually got my hands on a Sammons Fleece Purchase contract. The OOIDA strongly advised not to do it. In any event.....all lease purchases are bad....period.

Now for the real truth. I make 26% with the company I am with. I take home about $1200 per week after taxes and my health insurance coming out. I have saved my money for a decent down payment and extra for unforeseen operating costs. THAT IS THEY WAY YOU DO IT!! Already shopping for the truck. It will be mine and I can take it where I please.

Even with bad credit you can save and put down a bit of money on a truck. The problem is people want to play owner operator right now!! My advise....work hard properly learn the business....and put away some money out of every check.

I have shown numerous lease purchase contracts to attorneys that specialize in trucking...and the OOIDA. They had one thing to say....DONT DO IT!!!!!

MOGLAR.... Then why are you wasting your time on the L/P threads???? Just move on and concentrate on YOUR goals..
OOIDA has some good info for becoming an O/O, but for me, I prefer to keep an open mind and not let just one place decide or dictate my path...

Attorneys that specialize in trucking are the ones that wrote those contracts in the first place... Read/understand what is in the contract, and negotiate on things you want changed... If they say NO, move on.....

If your goal is to "take it where you please" then why not go there first.... Jumping around is a QUICK way to go broke... There are leases out there where you can take the truck elsewhere too, but for me, it would be way down the list for reasons to become a businessman in the first place...
