I thought schneider would be a good company to work for due to info I received on this website,I sent my online application in and called them 3 days later cause I got no response ,the recruiter took my social and said they didnt call cause I have a felony on my record ,what a crock that was ,I got a passport ,that I used about 10 times ,I vote every year and I know I had a simple misdemeanor from 1998, the guy said go to the courthouse and get you criminal records and fax it to them, well I went to get my records and as I knew nothing but one small misdemeanor from 98,I admit I had 3 speeding tickets in the last 5 years none in 2 years but if its cause of that tell me ,dont give me some bleep about a felony ,I decided to not bother with schneider cause I dont need someone lying to me before I even work for them, now I am applying with Roehl I pray things work out with them cause they appear to be the class act of trucking

I don't think any company is going to jump at the chance to hire someone with speeding tickets, their insurance company wouldn't like it much. I do agree if it was the tickets they should have been honest about it, but they do what they want, and for whatever reasons. Big companies are like that.

I am not understanding some of this? I have a friend that just graduated from the Charlotte, NC OC training program. It took him two weeks and he came back to SC, tested for his CDL and got it. He is not scheduled to go out with a TE until after Christmas.
What I am asking is why one at one OC you don't test for your CDL until after time with a TE and at another you get the CDL before hand? True he had to sign a contract with Schnider yet he still has his CDL before going out with a TE. -
It depends on local state laws.Some states do not allow transfer of CDL without retesting by them.Mass is one of them.If you train in PA, YOU MUST take your final CDL exam IN MASS by a State Trooper.

I am not going to defend schneider, But would like to say that the reason why it takes soo long is because of two reasons.
1st. If you can't learn to drive in six weeks they don't want you in there truck, And i can't blame them for that.
2nd. It is real easy to get your cdl in less then six weeks, but at a high coast to your abilty to drive a truck. Most everybody on this site could teach any one to pass a state test in a few days, because they are easy. But i don't think any body here could do so with a clear concence( i no i could'nt). You need that extra time to hone your skills. if you take short cuts your only hurting yourself(or the people you kill,because of your lack of training.... Schneider knows this and thats why there safty rating has greatly improved in past few years.. :smt030 :smt030 :smt030 -
I just received my cdl last week. 14 days for schneider acadamy, 3 days for state specif cdl training, then test for most students. being from florida, I went out with trainer before test, then more cdl practice, then test. not to mention the $350 a week they pay after the 14 days. Not great money but better than a sharp stick in the eye. I am not saying they are the greatest thing since canned beer, but they are reasonable and fair. Most students had their cdl's in 15 to 17 days then out with a trainer 2 to 3 weeks with pay.

While I haven't ever drove for sneider,I have recommended them just on what I see and hear,not from this forum as much as you would think. See,while I eat and listen to the cb,I evaluate these companies by the folks they are putting out there. Sneider drivers are ussually courteous and talk decent on the cb and just for the part of slower trucks,they are really safe drivers out there. I give credit to their training program for this. While you can just get your cdl and start driving,but,unless you have grown up around trucks,or have a good advisor on all the ins and outs,you are gonna do a few stupid mistakes,we all have,but training is better and elimates the serious mistakes if you could make without training first. I would hire a student of training before a person off the block that figured how to get his cdl with no or very little training. While it isn't hard to drive a truck,anybody can. What really shows in the end result,is what you have learned,good safety habits,proper sleep and attention to details that can hurt you or others around you. A really good driver is hard to find,one that doesn't screw up ,has no accidents,no tickets,and a straight bumper with the dark black part of the tires on the bottom and not the sides of the tires. I once worked for a guy with 50 peterbuilts,a driver asked him for a new truck like I was driving,he told that driver you may get a new truck when you stop wearing out my tires from the sidewalls,funny but true story. best of luck to you.

I have been lurking in the forms for a couple months now, and this post moved me so much that I had to register and make reply. I am planning to drive when I retire from the AF in June, and I have read so much about trucking its killing me to have to wait to get started. But, to my point, I am thinking about starting at Schneider just for the training, screw the pay for now.
I can think of 100 reasons that I would love to be underpaid (not really underpaid you are worthless without training) driving for Schneider rather than making a few cents more.
1, Having only a permit means the instructor has to sit in the passenger seat the whole time you are driving (At least I hope thats what will happen)
2, With that instructor for 6 weeks, I bet he/she will teach me how to park the truck in the oddest of positions that I cant even imagine until I start driving
3, The instructor I hope will teach me a few tricks that he/she has learned to make life a bit better on the road
4, Teach me how to manage my time, I know that there will be times when it would be best to stop driving for the day, to balance a pickup. I could go on and on
I just can't understand why someone would not want to have that person in the cab all that time to teach them, good or bad teacher I am sure he/she would teach me 1000 things I don't know or havent read on these boards
The training is about getting you and the load there in one piece in my opinion how can you even think about scrimping on training, screw the pay take the training, having a CDL in hand is worth nothing when you get in a couple accidents and cant find a job driving
