Up here in ND oil patch Swift has a few trucks... Maybe 20... They are pulling there trucks out for winter then bringing more in springtime...... Winter is the time to make the money here when they lift all the road weight restrictions.... So come spring when it's safe for there top notch drivers to drive they will be back.... I'd advise staying away from the swift or pumpkin oilfield trucks cause if ur willing to make a whooping 55 grand with them... they dont pay crap even up here is no different....or a homegrown company like mine where u can Easily make 110,000 a year...

Hey Folks, thanks for all the comments on this thread. I want to give you a real time update on the Schneider Energy Account for frac sand drivers.
We recently lost the Schlumberger Account up here in the Marcellus Shale area and we were told to standby waiting for another account to open up. That account was Baker Hughes. Much more organized than Schlumberger, yet still subject to change, that is the nature of working in the oil fields. When we hired on, we were told that we would be home daily and would have local, secure jobs...It has kind of evolved beyond that to less home time and not really all that secure at all. With the start of the BH account, we had to stay at a hotel and drive day cabs...eventually BH told SNI they didn't want day cabs anymore so they are switching over to all sleeper trucks. As of right now they are trying to hold this thing together with all sleeper trucks and it is not on steady footing.
When SNI lost the Schlumberger account, all drivers were laid off, yet told to remain on standby for the new account, most people stayed, but after the initial trial period with BH they were told that we need to go into sleepers and the rest of us, were told to wait...some of us just ended up leaving, it was fun while it lasted...CZ
P.S. There are still good opportunities with trucking companies driving frac sand trucks and making a helluva lot more money, but I would strongly recommend looking at companies with a more solid understanding of how the oil field works...cuzzin it, WideSkyND and HeckIGot2Go! Thank this. -
Hi cobra, it is nice to run into someone I feel actually has the answers I wanted to ask. In short my situation stands like this. Worked in East Tn. Tri-Cities area. Got layed off from a factory.A God send really, I would have never got anywhere there. BUT bought my dream house/cabin 4300 feet up Roan Mountain. Last year so hell of a time to be jobless. I'm a very resourceful lady! Best way to put it is like this.....been there, done that, seen it or heard about it. Several years ago I dated a guy who was trucker and went on several trips with him. I loved it. So with times getting harder everyday I said hey girl, forget that stupid factory job and go make some money, get that house paid for in a few years and then take it from there. I have a 21 year old son who is in his 3rd year of college, great kid. But nothing to hold me back or keep me at home. I start a local trucking school in a month or so when I come up on the list. I have been researching companies like crazy for 2 months. Reading hundreds of post! When low and behold I ran into the info about ND and the bakken. Considering I was an Ice road trucker tv show freek ND sounds like just what I would love!Heck I used to drive to the Mountains everytime it snowed just to get to drive in it. When I lived in the low lands....lol. I have to admitt other than the challenge, the money is a big draw. So the questions will insue....LOL. Bear with me as I will post several.

What about experience. I have read that you have to have it and also that they will take a person straight out of school. Your feelings on that please to begin with.

I have also read that just finding a place to stay is CRAZY. What about sleeper trucks? Heck I will live in the truck. Seems to me from what I read you'd loose half your money on a room,... is that a fair statement? Because to be honest I really don't care about comfort I just care about getting the job done. I would love to get every little tid bit of info you have. It is getting harder everyday to hold everything together on 210 a week Unemployment. Thank goodness I had a nest egg. But that will be all gone in a few months. So you can see for me to keep my son in college and pay the bills I have to strike whilel the Iron is hot. Thanks in advance for any and all info.
Have a great day sweetie
And thanks in advance -
Listened to a discussion on a business radio show just a few months back about this
It seems it is too early to tell how far that will progress, and how long, but the preliminaries looked
good for long term exploration.openthedour Thanks this. -
You could be ready for trying it up in Bakken area then.
Its plain out dangerous up in western ND when it comes to driving just a 4 wheeler,in this profession if play it slow, you go pretty far, way less stress tooopenthedour Thanks this. -
Problem Schneider and other rat outfits like them have in oil patch is the schedule. With no sleepers and the way frac operations can go to Hell in a minute they are not set up to adapt. They run electronic logs, bus people to slip seat, and have employees get smart with lead drivers and pushers. Then they are out. Oil companies need their drivers to be ready to wake up and hit it in a matter of minutes not hours. May be better on crude hauling and other less time critical opps. And it is lonely. Followed a couple of Pumpkins from Brady to Andrews and not one other sand hauler would respond to them on CB. LOL But they are out there cutting rates. Same with FFE water haulers. Those that have work are lucky
HeckIGot2Go! Thanks this.
