So like many others I've decided to get out of my current career situation and get into trucking, have been eyeing it for a while now and I figure its time to make the leap. And like many others I am searching for some insight on how to get started.

I am in the state of Georgia and because of my current situation I would either need weekend training while I continue to work or find a company that will do training and pay. Wish I could take the time off to do the training, but its just something I can't do in my current situation.

Any advice on companies that can accommodate would be most appreciated, thank you.

If you get training thru a trucking company, it usually involves a contract to drive for them for some period of time, usually 1 year. Weekend school would take longer but then you'd be free to drive for whomever. Of course you could always buy yourself out of a contract, usually prorated I think.

I'm not against going out of state for paid training. And I'm ok with having to contract for a year or buy out.

I think Roehl Transport pays $500 weekly while in cdl school. Call and ask about that.
    Training is in Conley, Georgia.
If you go with Roehl, I recommend go with the Refrigerated National Fleet. This way, you'll get more miles and make more money than with the flatbed or dry van division.

All provide transportation to the school, plus, meals and lodging.
These are the only ones I know of that pay the students a salary or hourly pay.

Dot Transportation has a "warehouse to driver" program. You'd be paid hourly working in the warehouse, then if you prove yourself, you'd transfer to a driver position with paid training.

Jul 19, 2019 · Jul 19, 2019. Companies across the country are always looking for ways to recruit more drivers. At Dot, we found that for some people who have never been a truck driver before, entering the industry can be intimidating. So, we created the Warehouse to Driver Program —a gradual transition program that allows employees to get used to Dot and the way we function in the warehouse …
