I started over at the Vo-tech at Fort Cobb, Ok. The instructors are great and because of the previous 5 months driving experience I had plus me already passing the pretrip inspection, I just brushing up on paperwork, inspections and the like but they are mainly focusing on me out on the road, and doing backing exercises. In fact, after the instructor calmly (instead of how the "trainer" at my last job screamed at me) I improved remarkably on the driver side parallel park. I wanted to ask though because I never got an answer from the classroom teachers and couldn't find it anywhere in the material. There was a question on a test wanting to know "What is the Christmas rule" There were four answers and I picked none of the above because the other three answers were somewhere along the lines of: 1.)On Christmas Eve you are allowed to drive as fast as possible to get home. 2.)Your HOS do not count for the 24 hour period of Christmas Day. 3.)You do not have to stop for DOT inspections. 4.)None of the above Naturally I picked the 4th choice, common sense would be the determining factor. But is there a such a thing as the Christmas Rule? I did an internet search for it and the only thing that came back was the news story about FMSCA passing the new HOS rules back in December of 2011 that take effect in 2013 but I am pretty sure that isn't it. Was that just a trick question on the test?
Well after talking to the head instructor I did indeed find out there was something similar to a "Christmas Rule" and after she explained it to me, it makes sense, go figure. Anyway at my school before taking the DOT test to get the cdl, you have to take a road test administered by the school. Don't know if it is the same in all states but in Oklahoma on the DOT test 70 passes 69 and below fails. Our school test is basically the same (backing and road skills) with a few extras added in. Passing is 90 89 and below will fail you. I took my school test and made a 93! And the stuff I missed was really boneheaded stuff like my trailer offtracking when I made my turns and handling curves. Instructor said I did great and should have no problem passing the DOT exam.
are you referring to taking the permit test or the final exam for the CDL test? many schools are 3rd party certified by the state they operate in to administer the CDL exam. they have to meet rigid standards, and the state is allowed to show up on test day without notice and observe the testing process.
And if your school is half desent. Like SAGE, you could get a job working on a dock. Or other areas. If you go to a PAM, SWIFT type school. You might end up driving over - the - road.
yeah i talked to the instructors at the school and dps can and does show up sometimes will even jump in and ride or tell the school examiner they will give the test. The school test is basically the same as the dot one but has more stuff on it and has a smaller window to make mistakes in.
