I see where this is leading! HA!

Well, unless you and I were in the cab of that tractor, we'll never know, will we?

They teach Smith System to everyone, jakes and cruise control off in bad road conditions, increase following distance and slow down in inclement weather. The student drivers in CDL instruction get more wheel time at Prime than at any other carrier I am aware of, and (now) around six or eight weeks (measured at 30,000 miles) with a trainer. That seems to be a frequent complaint by the newbs who are hot to start getting one of those big truck drivin' paychecks. There are carriers out there that take a CDL-mill graduate, give them a week and a half of orientation classes and turn them loose...

    wasn't really leading anywhere.

    thanks....

I've come to the conclusion it doesn't matter how much I slow down for inclement weather, and attempt to keep some extra distance between myself and other 4 wheelers, the majority of drivers will refuse to allow me that distance, as they feel it necessary to whip around and cut right back in front of my bumper.

    doubledragon5 and 48Packard Thank this.

You just have to keep backing off... that extra space is what keeps you out of trouble.

That's what I do.....it's all I can do. Stay in the right lane and do my best to keep my safety zone.

Which really drives me nuts about the supertruckers that pull up 2' behind someones (usually a 4-wheeler) bumper. No reaction time like that - and if they get in a wreck near you, you're pulled into it by location.

    teddy_bear6506 Thanks this.

Well if you get close enough there's no impact... just a little "push".

Okay, this driver's name is Ricky and he's actually a friend of a friend. It was raining and he was doing 50-55 mph, came around a blind curve where there was a car doing about 25 in a 70 zone. He steered into the hammer lane and the trailer started to skid. At this point he was facing the concrete barrier in the median. He corrected the skid and the truck pushed him too far in the opposite direction. Witnesses in other cars confirmed that he was not speeding! Also Prime has not fired Ricky. Actually, there is a brand new truck waiting in MO for his return from medical leave.

So you can all stop your assuming what happened and perpetuating rumors.

By the way, Ricky is doing great and expects to be cleared to return to work next week.
