My Detroit has been one of those with the white smoke at startup. Well today I did something different. And only one small puff of smoke at startup. I hit the fuel before turning the Key. Then hit it while turning it over. Fired right up, ran perfect. And that one small puff of white smoke.
Buddy of mine told me to try this yesterday. That they had lots of them do this when cold. But if he did the above. Almost no smoke and ran great. Mine also stumbled some at times when first started. Then smooth out and run good. But today no stumble, idled perfect and no embarrassing smoke.
Will try it the next 5 or 6 days. And see how it works out then. 23 degrees this am and it worked. Hope it keeps working.

If you think that's embarrassing, you should see my 3406e fire up when it's below freezing. Personally I love that smell!
DieselDisciple, Broke Down 69 and Oldironfan Thank this. -
Got rid of the skeeters for a short while after start up.Oldironfan and DSK333 Thank this. -
We have a FedEx terminal behind the tank wash I park at. I fill their entire parking lot with smoke if it's cold and the wind blows out of the West.
Broke Down 69, DSK333 and baha Thank this. -
Thanks guys, I don't mind a little smoke. But this truck is King. As in Block out the view for a few minutes. This am it was still smoking. Not as bad,but still bad. It being a weed burner makes it look bad for sure. Will try to get a Video next week of liftoff.

He was out of them also, so ordered us a bunch. Got 100 for what a 3 pack here would have cost. Then had to pay shipping. Because where in the middle of no where. -
With the IAT unplugged, it showed 3/4 Tank 350 gallons. So looks like that is tied into the fuel gauge also..
And ran a new Coax cable for the CB. In the Overhead, and now feedback from Both window motor, Blower mower, Both Mirrors. Guess I will take and redo that job also.
Thanks for that unplug ideal. 10K Diodes should be in next week. Will use one on the white wire. And later on when I get the truck ready for the road. Will have all the info on the ECM checked. I bet being its a IV and it had a III they did not set the stuff right for the engine.
