idler pulleys and tensioner are wore out allowing belt to run into sharp area that cuts through one cord at a time, at least that's how it happened on my 2012 Cascadia dd15

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

only warning I had was the temp gauge going up after the fact, just had a new a/c compressor installed
everything looked ok, belt seemed to be tracking alright, when I had road service bring me a new belt
I could see where it was tracking towards the engine and at the tensioner was off tracking just enough to
allow the belt to get shaved through a little at a time from the side, it ended up looking like someone cut

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

Is that something that could have been spotted during a pre-trip?

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

Usually they start chirping a little or a slight squeal at first when that happens.

    Lepton1, x1Heavy and kemosabi49 Thank this.

Or, if the driver does a decent pre-trip, he'll notice black specks and black dust from the belt wearing excessively.

    Lepton1 and x1Heavy Thank this.

    Edited.

I like certain things replaced prior to winter.

The serpentine Belt happens to be one of these in addition to the virigin 10 tires for the tractor while as many as possible, good ones go to trailer.

I'll work on some of the posts as the weekend progresses, some of the postings were not the quality they needed to be due to extreme conflicts with medicine. My docs gave me a clean bill of health a few hours ago and kicked me out.

I know now I need to find a quality cell phone hardware, the crappy cheap phone i connect to by proxy to my home computer from elsewhere is not a good preforming solution I had hoped for.

Other posts of about the last 7 days or so give or take a few are turning up with defects in them. I'll see what I can do to make those go away.

Reason for edit: Working on older posts with defects in them. It serves none to have them up.

True, unless you have a failing or misaligned tensioner and your running the Gates HD green belts. But the good thing I noticed with those is when mine started to go out of alignment you could see where one side of the belt started to wear right away

Yep! It only takes a minute to inspect the belt and fan. May as well take a peak at it while checking the oil.

    Lepton1 and x1Heavy Thank this.
