Depending on what you are hauling you may not need authority, a lot of farm stuff is exempt commodity’s, my uncle runs intrastate too, he just doesn’t want to deal with the ifta and extra insurance etc, I pay more for authority on one truck then it costs to run his 3 local.

2.00 a mile is nothing to get excited about, if you pinch pennies you can make it but for the most part you’ll just be barely paying your bills, hardly worth it IMO, if you do go full authority you should be closer to 3, it is ok to go down into the upper $2 pm area though if they are going to consistently pay you every 7 days, not 30, 60, or 120.

never buy a day cab, I made a good bit of money napping in my truck 14 miles from the yard, and of things go south on your current run, you are very limited to new avenues

Sounds like you’ve got a pretty good job already. The question to ask yourself is if it’s worth the investment and all the extra work you’re sure to be doing. The responsibilities of the authority and equipment is always with you. At home on the weekends, always. Might be better opportunities to make extra cash, without all the risk, and have the freedom to take it or leave it.
