settle an arguement please

    Buddy of mine and myself got into a big debate.

    I told him im planning on getting my CDL and doind OTR
    He said " hell i should do it as well this way we can team up"

    I told him he wouldnt get his CDL/Pass the testing cause he takes Valium.

    He tells me and i also looked
    that the hair testing only looks or the 5 drugs that the FMCSA looks for.

    I told him thats just the bare min companies can look for more then just those 5
    and could test for more drugs if the companies want
    Who is right?

    Non-DOT Drug Testing: What You Need to Know

    Employers MAY be more STRICTER than regulations. For example. Im hearing impaired and can hear with hearing aids very well. But one employer refused the hire because they discriminate against HI Drivers despite hard documentation proving that I meet DOT regulations the way people use glasses to meet DOT regs on vision. I would have made a mint off them in the courthouse, however the FMCSA ruled in my case that the Employer may be more strict and that is that. I have no case.

    Now. Back to the Valium.

    It's potentially a problem. Seizures? Forget it if you have that as part of your history you are pretty much finished with DOT Medical qualification. It could also be a mental health thing anxiety etc is why it's used. ONLY for SHORT periods of time prior to a procedure that is being done medically to the patient. If the person uses it long term, they become addicted and without it will suffer withdrawals that are in need of treatment. It's safe to say one of the things with Withdrawal is very high blood pressure which will knock you out of being qualified under DOT medical. Which is why they administer a blood pressure check on pain patients because when they don't have medicine in the system they have very high blood pressure. A drug screen for pain medicine and illegal drugs plus smoking and alcohol is then given to confirm. If negative, the contract is ternimated and the patient removed from the pain center care.

    I don't care that people take valium now and then for a procedure when they need it that day for a hour or so. I DO CARE if you have a stack of the stuff and pop it every time you stress about the dog barking at night at home... That's not what it's for. It can be abused just as easily as anything.

    Finally but not last.

    I refuse to accept a teammate that has to do drugs to deal with stress.

    Trucking is incredibly stressful at times in battle. A drugged teammate is a LIABILITY to my life. It's NOT worth it. I don't care if it's my wife (She was team with me...) she's being kicked onto the porch back home until she stops that *&^%.

    FMCSA Expands Its Drug Testing Panel Effective January 1, 2018
    Friday, November 10, 2017
    The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced in a rule to be published in the Federal Register on November 13, 2017, that it will expand its drug testing panel to include four synthetic opioid drugs: hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone and oxymorphone. In addition, FMCSA will add methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) as an initial test analyte, and remove methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA) as a confirmatory test analyte. These changes are being made to harmonize FMCSA’s drug testing regulations with recent changes to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs. The changes to FMCSA’s rules take effect on January 1, 2018.

    The addition of the synthetic opioid drugs is intended to address the nationwide epidemic of prescription painkiller abuse. Hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone and oxymorphone are Schedule II controlled substances and are more commonly known as Vicodin, OxyContin, Lortab, Norco, and Dilaudid, among others. FMCSA still refers to its drug testing panel as a 5-panel, but “opiates” is being changed to “opioids” and now will include these four synthetic substances in addition to heroin, morphine and codeine.

    FMCSA’s new rules also make certain technical amendments, clarify certain definitions and remove the requirement for employers and Consortium/Third Party Administrators to submit blind specimens.

    FMCSA-regulated employers should revise their drug and alcohol testing policies to conform to the regulations that are effective on January 1, 2018.

    What you should be doing is asking yourself why in h are you willing to put your life in your druggie friends hands.

    If your willing to roll down the hwy in a 32k lbs to 80k lbs WMD with someone that uses , I'm thinking you don't have enough commonsense to even be out here solo. Just saying.

    That's the only downside to some forums.
    People don't read posts correctly and make the wrong assumption.

    When people don't write a coherent post and leaves out details, people can't read the post correctly and make wrong assumptions.

    Just saying.

    Thought my post was very clear.
    It was a debate was about if he or I were correct about companies being more strict then the FMCSA in the testing.
