Heartland Express discriminates against male medical donors. I was just offered a position there yesterday, then in the Welcome Letter is the first notice I receive that men must have short hair, specifically no ponytails, and this only applies to men. We aren't talking about a job where long hair could be a safety or health hazard, and I don't buy that it has to do with professionalism, because we're talking about an industry that doesn't allow its employees to shower regularly. I explained to the recruiter, Ron Burke, that I grow my hair long to donate to Locks of Love to make wigs for cancer patients who have lost their hair to chemo. Although he sympathized with my position, instead of jumping on a PR opportunity, I was told that's the policy, sorry, can't do anything about it.

How very lame of Heartland.

"There are too many slobs in this industry!"
"How dare a company set grooming standards?!"
paul_4lp, Blackshack46, dog-c and 7 others Thank this. -
I don't think a pony tail makes that driver a slob.
I'm sure we've all seen far more qualifying criteria.
paul_4lp Thanks this. -
I work for a company with a much higher level image and status than heartless and they don't care. Keep it in a ponytail and represent the company like a professional that's all that matters.
Same with my training company.
Previous to trucking I flew cargo commercially for many years. With a ponytail. As long as it's clean and neat and well kept hair doesn't have a #### thing to do with ability, safety, or professionalism
I mean really lol is heartless worried about some image they're trying to project? That's hilarious. With 5 years in you should be looking at much better companies than heartless. We have some space on some of their yards to do drops for relays. They have a lot of guys that the short hair doesn't help their image one bit lol -
paul_4lp, Wild Murphy, Shaggy and 2 others Thank this.

Or if you still really wanna work at a crappy company, apply at GTI. You'll be working for Heartland without the no long hair rule.
paul_4lp, Stew209 and freightwipper Thank this. -
I appreciate what you do even if heartland doesn't.
paul_4lp, Dark_Majesty_06, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this.
