Ok maybe its just me but how tf do you shift an 8spd transmission without grinding to 5th or down to 4th!? I could shift flawlessly in my 13spd but for the 8's ive always had a hard time even floating them. Anyone know the "sweet spot"
since im stuck In this Volvo VNL for a while? i believe its a fuller
    Thanks!

Same shift pattern as 13/18. Your talking about a 9 speed or 8ll?

Anytime you switch transmissions, it takes time to get used to the rhythm of the new transmission. When going from a 13 to an 8 speed you're going to need to wind it up more, and shift slower. The engine will need to lose more RPMs, and that takes more time.

Find out what your speed is in 4th at about 1600 rpm and take a mental note so you know pretty much where you need to be. I usually go 5th to 3rd and I know 15mph it will slide right in at 1600

Maybe I’m wrong, but the so called 8-speed is technically a 9-speed when you count the (LO) granny gear.

I know shift pattern is the same but i always grind gears going from 4th to 5th or downshifting from 5th to 4th.
But thru testing with RPM and MPH to see if i can get it, this past day and a half ive concluded that the 8spd sucks and im glad this torture is almost over lol. For whatever reason i just cant make that transition ‍♀️

Try waiting a little longer to shift from 4 to 5, or perhaps you need to move a little faster. You have to experiment with it. Are you double clutching or floating gears?

A 9 and a 13 are the same basic trans, most newer ones will be rtlo models, if it’s an 8LL/8LL over it’s going to be an rto series trans which doesn’t have the “synchro” on the main shaft. But it could have the one on the high/low spitter that is worn out
