Is this possible? I've touched on this a bit before. Truck is a 14 579 Pete. I'm not sure but some have told me it might be a solo clutch, and it's hydrolic also. Petal does not grab until tip top of pedal release. Some times, splitting the 13 speed down seems very slow to do so. Some times I'll go to down split let off throttle 99% and then mash throttle and it will over rev engine, so I let off throttle until engine drops again to about 1000 rpm to grab split down gear.
Company truck they don't seem to be to concerned.

Clutch brake does not have anything to do with shifting. Only when stopped.

Right! One should never use the clutch brake while shifting.

So would it be that the adjustment is bad? Solo clutch type issue?

if it is releasing at the top of the pedal the clutch is never fully disengaging. Get it adjusted properly before it is gone.

It sounds like it is already gone if it is slipping like that. I'd try adjusting it first and see if it helps. Clutch brake only comes into play last 1/4 of travel just before the floor

There should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch freeplay at the top, even on hydraulic actuated clutches...definitely needs adjusted....why use a clutch when shifting anyway?

It is actually gone, better nose it towards the shop before having to pay for the wrecker to get you moving again.

    Grubby Thanks this.

    Clutch is out of adjustment.

If the brake is bad it’s hard to get it in gear at a stop. Usually gotta jam it and it will grind a little.

it Sounds like you may have more of a problem than just a clutch out of adjustment. The new hydraulic systems are supposed to have a certain amount of self adjustment.

When splitting up or down, it needs to break torque for a moment. This will unload the transmission and gears. That will allow for the overdrive gear to move out of the way. This is air operated, if it is hanging up you may have a bad actuator or an air leak in that part of the system. Have never had to use the clutch to split on any 13,15 or 18 speed. All throttle control. Then float the rest once moving.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.
