been a while since i got off the road, ive been intermittently driving friends dump trucks here and there while working the family business down here and decided to buy our own truck to do it full time. Ive got rates and some of the financials figured out, mostly would be hauling concrete and fill from our 2 main brokers/companies our company uses for haulout. Im looking for recommendations on what to avoid for trucks, i dont have shiny new pete money, but i can afford mid 2010s trucks based off the pricing ive seen, i know to avoid paccar motor trucks, my otr experience was all in ISX15's and a DD15 truck. both i did a few hundred k miles in.
how are the mid 2010's mack mp8's? ive heard about some inject issues and not great mileage, i see a fair amount of them for sale with 200-300kish on them

the volvo d13 motors still have harness issues?

    things along those lines.

When I bought my truck the best advice I got was stay away from pre 2014 emission trucks, the early version emission systems were problematic. If I were you, I would get something from before emissions, 2005 or earlier, they will be much more reliable, and cheaper to repair.
Emissions system has been my biggest expense and headache by far!

If you're gonna go old, may as well go true pre-emission with an early 2000s. Then no EGR valves and coolers to crap out.

Don't buy used emission. There's a reason they're being put up for sale. Right when all the major issues start creeping up. About 15k for a one box on a DD. You don't don't wanna touch cummins isx from the years your talking about. Go new or old, not 1st gen epa junk. It'll break you.

Pre egr 03 and older. Doesn't matter what brand, they're all bullet proof compared to what's out now.

    You guys local?

You are going to want pre 2007 as there’s not enough money in dump to go newer anyways, bag of #### Mack or a t800 kw/378 Pete, maybe a star, but they are heavy, go with a super single frame over a double, especially if your in the salt belt, 18 speed or even a junk 8LL would do fine, 46 rears 4.10 or 4.30 ratio

    sprayed150 Thanks this.

I’d also recommend a small bunk, I don’t care how close you stay to home it sucks sleeping over a steering wheel, I’ve made a lot of money sleeping in my bunk 14 miles from the yard,

also it will give you options if something happens with the dump
