We generally try for at least a year. So that worse case scenario we are good for that long at least no matter what. because of our weekly contributions over and beyond W2, we build a 5 figure refund that massively provides for the new year coming. Adding to what we already saved.

Money is everything in trucking. If you aint got any? Well.. you aint gonna get far in this industry. Wait until your first orientation and encounter people who cannot have 20 dollars in the whole hotel among themselves and it's a oppertunity for a shower which some have not had in a while.

Go to Prime then; Prime has good training and nice trucks.

Prime is not a bad outfit, but they are more selective during orientation than most. I would not quit until after orientation. And then I'd ask for a leave of absence (make up a story about caring for a family member).

Don't worry about him. He specializes in trying to scare off newbies.

    He doesn't even drive anymore.

That said, definitely use your vacation to get trucking, if you can.

As radman said, "cover your six", because things can happen your first year on the road that can be career killers, so......don't burn any bridges.

Not sure exactly what your situation is. But word of advise, think long and hard before you do this.

My cousin left a management job of 18 years because he wanted to drive a truck.

He went to Swift, completed training. Took some time at home before getting his own truck. Then decided that driving NYC was not something he ever wanted to do again.

Reapplies for his old job, which still hadn’t been filled. Only to find out he now needed a 4 year degree to get it.

Needless to say, he’s doing jobs he never thought he would be at his age. Not trucking, or management.

Why didn't he change companies to one that doesn't run NYC?

    He’s a dumb*** lol

But maybe not, he’s making good money holding a stop sign. As much or more than I make in a week. He just spends more time away from home now.
