I was just looking to get feedback on boyd I have seen
Some mixed reviews I'd be coming right outta cdl school
From nebraska . Main concerns are home time
I'm in eastern Nebraska. Also does Boyd provide ladders to get to the top of the flatbed for a tall load or how does
that work. Any info about miles or anything would be extremely helpful thanks.

I just got out of a long sentence in hell....I mean Flatbedding with Gypsum Express. Every Boyd truck I saw at any of our customers were junk. Their Tarps were junk. On top of that, I never heard a good thing about the company from any of them. Boyd, Gypsum Express, TMC......they all stink on ice. You will work 5 times as hard as a dry van driver, and be lucky to make the same money, if not less than them. Too many dummies out here these days, willing to work for free.
If you are self-hating enough to go with Boyd anyway, after all this, a ladder will not cost you all that much. Get a single 8' ladder, or a 16' extension ladder. Both of them are 8' long, so you can lay them across the front or rear of your trailer, if you can't find a way to hang them on your headache rack. I got a great 16' fiberglass ladder from Lowe's for around $200. If you divide that money up by the amount of times it will make your job easier, it's money well spent.
I see a lot of guys using a 6' step ladder, which is fine most of the time. I just hate to be trying to climb down, and have the ladder kick out on me, and give me an expess trip to the deck or even the ground. -
OK well that's not the good news I was hoping for. But Boyd
still is the leader at this point. For not having any experience anyway. -
Well, being in the business for over half my life, I would rather have a chipmunk on cocaine dropped into my pants, than go to work for Boyd.
I would rather have someone drop a bowling ball on my tongue, than work for Boyd.
If this is "The leader at this point", you need to look more. -
Have you ever worked for them? What is so bad about them?

At least TMC had very nice trucks to drive. Boyd had nothing but junk. The trucks were bright and shiny on the outside, but poorly maintained. Their trailers were complete junk. Their tarps had more patches than actual tarp material.
Don't get me wrong, the company I was driving for was a joke too. It took me a while to get away from them, but I am happy beyond words that I finally did. I just hate to see someone get involved with them. If you do sign on, then leave soon after, other employers will consider you a "Job Hopper", and not be interested in you. -
OK well I appreciate all the input.

Hahaha lol. Boyd bros aka welcoming to Right Lane Trucking home of the flashers. Sit back grab a magazine, get a drink cause its gonna be a long hill to climb. Just like anybody else Boyd is a so so company. Boyd if you reading this you should consider atleast min of 63 mph. I worked there and I couldn't seem to stay out the north east. All I run is all of eastxoast. Been hit with Ny back to back to back. Sometimes get luck go south or ohio. But right back north. You will only average say 1800 to 2100 miles. Home time most of the time its Sat eve to Sun eve. One thing I've realized is a lot of these guys here are brainwashed. Boyd babies so of course they love there parent. -
Roehl is not perfect, but 99% of time, they're fair and honest. I chose them for their acclaimed focus on safety. And I'm sure they're hiring from your area. I been through NE 2x in as many weeks. Good freight lane.
If I leave Roehl I'll prolly go to ATS or Lonestar. Ive talked with many drivers from both who are really happy at each.
There are a dozen others. Don't "settle", even for your first company. Plenty of good flatbed co's hire student drivers! -
maverick always seems to get good reviews among their drivers
