Part of truckings issues are oil change intervals are so long now .. 2 decades ago guys were seeing a shop every 4 to 6 weeks for a service , now some dont see a shop for 6 months . The smart ones do a weekly grease job themselves to keep a eye on things.. if you’re not under the truck doing early inspections is a good thing imo

Things change but it used to be if your required Landstar inspection expired you could not get dispatched again. If folks were caught out on the road then they tend to go to the nearest Landstar approved inspection facility. Then you maybe taken advantage of because they know you cannot run intel your truck passes inspection.
Difference could be a small crack in the exhaust y - pipe. Shop A says you have a tiny crack in your exhaust y - pipe. You need to get that repaired or replaced before your next inspection. Shop B says " You have an exhaust leak you are out of service! "
If you have your truck inspected early you cannot be taken advantage of like that. However $400 seems a bit sporty to me. Maybe ask other Landstar operators who they use.

I would find a shop that is good. If they are good it would be worth the trip. If you are going to any Joe blow I would not waste my time and money. The money is worth it if a good shop Is honest about stuff. Most will just waste your money for no reason. I only go to one shop unless it is tires or an emergency. They look over the truck anytime I bring it in for a service or have an issue that I see coming up and fix it before stuck on the road.

It helps if you pay close attention to details on your truck. Doesn't mean you need to crawl all over it either. A good driver can tell a lot by just driving the truck and looking over it every few weeks on top of the daily checks. Also helps if you have a way of checking ghost codes that do not pop up on the dash through ELD or scanners.

If you're LS - I may have a good location for you with preventative maintenance in mind, that I trust - depending on your running area. PM me if you need. B.

I have always avoided the dealer like the plague. Dealers are way over priced. Find a good mechanic that you trust to go over your truck. If you don't know a good mechanic, I am sure someone here will poi t you in the right direction.
