The trucking industry use to be regulated. The rates were set by the government. It worked. Somehow regulating ourselves is illegal. I don't get it. I think we should use the DAT rates and add 25%.
There was a PBS show on trucking in the Coal Country of Kentucky. The wife of one of the truckers there told a tale. She said that there is a rule that at the local Who re House they cannot let Two Truckers in the house at the same time. Seems the Truckers would spend all their time, flucking each other. -

Yes. It is socialism. But I believe we should be allowed to work together and refuse to haul cheap. The Government needs to lay off about 75% of their work force. They can't do that until they get rid of the civil service laws. Elect a new President and fire all the government employees.

Heck one of my all time best paying loads was a TQL load. I don’t haul a lot for them but they can pay if they really want something moved?

Interesting thread.
Especially like the idea of how much to shoot for every day after fuel. You have to know what it cost to operate, but that's a good quick way to figure your rate. In that way it's a very good idea to share your rates.
If everyone did that every day, and they had a minimum for the truck to move even on short runs, everything would fall into place.
Trucking is like Contracting. There's always a cheapskate on the loose.BoyWander Thanks this. -
Yes a free market makes room for lots and lots of competition that can drive rates down, but it also has more room for opportunity than any other system.BoyWander Thanks this.
