You have good points for sure. I guess $3/mi is the new $2/mi but costs go up. Also, I’m not sure if it’s my state or federal but Feb 1 all new CDL holders must go thru a school vs getting it on their own. That takes out a lot of “good” drivers who come off the farm and go to haulin. Driver shortage will get worse and unless the foreign drivers take up the slack.

Yeah that new rule will be interesting. It will definitely add to new shortage because majority of people not sitting on 6k to pay the school and don't wanna enter a 1 year 40cpm contract to get it paid for, by a company that may or may not treat them like poop lol

For sure. Them ol boys pulling cattle pots, doing oversized, specialty, heavy haul, then your regular dry and reefer set and forget type high quality drivers I guarantee mostly got their CDL on their own. I certainly did and everyone I know.

For those who like me learned from their Dad or Grandad... you think they’ll go through a school? Hell no they’ll just operate on the farm. My 5 yr old will drive trucks no doubt on the farm or be outlaws but going to some school? lol I doubt it.

    It’s all messed up
It isn’t that farm kid that can’t drive a truck it’s those being so called trained by someone who himself or herself just got their CDL a month earlier but that’s old news and been the problem from the get

It is time to buy a truck, new one, 200k+ will take around 30+? months to pay it off if freight prices will, at least, stay the same as now and you'd work 24/7/30/365 and make double payments. And it is just to pay it off and come to a zero)

No rush to pay off a loan. Interest is deductible. Credit is good to have. Working capital is key. Don’t be broke when you start an endeavor.
