Is the crankcase pressure sensor used to provide the "pressure" on my 'oil can' dash meter.

Or is it some other sensor?

I've had two shutdown's due to 'crankcase sensor to high' this morning. :biggrin_25514:

no, cranckcase pressure is for engine protection. It is to check how good is cranckcase ventilation, and it reads exaus gas pressure in crankcase. If piston rings are bad, ore damaged piston it reads higher then normal pressure and engine may shut be off

And I thought 149 Detroits were the only engines with crankcase pressure sensors.

it is usual volvo issue, bad crankcase pres. sensor, that reads over 0.3 BAR. Engine shuts off

Had it serviced at Roberts truck center in Savannah, GA Tuesday.

    It was 'just' the sensor.

I did however, get a chance to have my #1 pos EGR valve replaced with a reman'd unit. $690.

Here's where it gets strange. Leaving last night, I did an all night run north on 77 to get to Cleveland by 2pm today.
Climbing out of VA into WV, my check engine light comes back on(arghh)

My Oil pressure guage on dash now reads 0.(this was replaced last year)

Engine ECU diagnostic says its a communications error.
    Instrument ECU says electrical fault.

Which begs this question. Do i have an issue with an electric surge that may be popping/blowing out sensor's?

to get to the crankcase pressure sensor, you have to unplug the oil pressure sensor. what is the FMI when you read the engine ecu faults for the PID 100? if its an FMI 5, that's open circuit...so they may haven't gotten the sensor plugged in all the way. these dumb sh!ts in sweden that think they can build an engine use these twist lock connectors at all of the sensors. can't use metripack, weatherpack, framatome, or any other connector type that everyone else deems good enough for their engine. and i think if cummins thinks its good enough, then it is definitely good enough for a volvo.

    sorry for the rant.

interesting...where can I look to see if it needs to be plugged in properly.

I cleared the codes( don't remember what codes were).... and none have popped since...and oil can is still reading zero.

?? the crankcase pressure sensor and oil pressure sensor are stacked vertically on engine block just behind alternator on left hand side??

which is which- both are tuf to reach behind the tangle of wiring harnesses.

Both appeared to have plenty of 'designed' play both clockwise and counter-

On ignition key sequence start: 'oil can' pops from dead(below zero) to zero precisely.

On LCD diagnostics, engine oil show 'full' 8 qts
