Is freight slow in LTL right now? I’ve noticed most companies in my area usually are desperate for drivers and now most companies aren’t hiring drivers anymore. Of freight is slow when does it usually get better? All answers are helpful

Freight seems to kind of have a lull in mid summer and then will pick back up again in fall a touch, and the winter is usually the slowest time of year. That’s back when I did freight and everything was “normal”. Now with the pandemic, the Ukraine war and an economy that some predict is about to recess, it’s anyones guess. General freight is very fickle. I remember one year it seemed especially slow and guys told me “well yea, it’s an election year”. Like I was supposed to know that had an impact on freight levels. Where you at in the St. Louis area? I used to live in Fenton.

FedEx Freight is getting ready to do a major reorganization of the way freight moves through the network, with lots of terminals either losing or gaining runs. I’ve heard that our STL hub is losing a lot of freight in this change.

If you’re willing to move, I know FedEx Freight in Denver needs to hire 30-40 drivers to move the freight that’s being shifted their way.

Things are definitely slowing down here in Chicago. My friends at OD and Dayton are telling me some guys are staying home once a week. I’m blessed to be working everyday still.
