One of our frequent shippers of air conditioning units just changed their hole sizes on the Units where you run the chain through to secure the unit. Instead of the hole being big enough for the thickest chains otr drivers use now you can barely fit the 5/16 chain through! You have to take the hook off the chain to run the chains through the hole then re-attach. So I said no thanks and ran my chain over the bracket that has the hole in it lol. Shipper said didn't matter how I secured it once on my truck as long as I didn't use straps over the top. That's my rant for the day lol. Anybody else want to rant?

I run loads all the time the hook has to come off.... it literally takes 30 seconds or less. I assume you secured it sufficiently, just don't cheese it because you're too lazy to take 30 seconds to do it right if you didn't

So it's actually normal? And 30 seconds to take the hook off of 8 chains and then re-attach? You maybe right but it was cold in rainy so in my head I was thinking possibly hours lol.

I guess taking the hooks off is a new thing to me. I used to work for Paul transport and I never once had to take apart my chains for a load. I come to Malone and its like every week.

I didn't even think about that honestly. Yes that would of worked although I would of needed 16 of them.

No, 30 seconds per, so maybe 5 minutes for 8 chains. A pair of pliers or vise grips to pull the pin and reattach it. Some loads are designed for 5/16, some for 3/8 or larger, just depends on the load. Is it the norm to have to do it? Not really, but it' not uncommon either.
