That's a handbook of guidelines. It isn't rules or regulations.

Makes it so much easier when you don’t have a rub rail.

That website is the "drivers handbook". Its a reference, not the regs. I carry a printed book version published by jj keller for when I'm loading something I'm not familiar with. Its a great source for referencing or a quick reminder on securement but it is not the regulations.

California doesn't have any securement regs of its own, as far as I know it's just a web page saying that they follow federal standards.

I pull a Western trailer, it doesn't have a rub rail, so I'm immune anyway.

Sorry. Super late to the party here. We go inside the rub rail in Cali. You won’t be bothered either way. Too many yahoos running around putting them outside the rail to care anymore.

Only thing cali cares about these days. Just like every other state.

No tears over 1/2 inch. Or whatever the reg is.

Used to be a rumor about twisting straps. I called truckee to confirm. Tears is all they care about anymore.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

I don't remember the exact number. It might even be 3/4. Utah stopped me and measured. It wasn't long enough but they asked me to swap the strap anyways. I'm not sure on the frays.

This was a few years back. So if the reg. changed. I wouldn't know. I've never been stopped since. And I've been local tanker for the last 2 years.

Depends on the width of the strap, cuts on the same side are not added together cuts on opposite sides are.
