I decided that the time has come to make changes. Buying a cabin in Weed, CA, moving there from Albuquerque. Sold my rental, selling my residence, selling my 31 acres in SW New Mexico, and just sold my Freightliner. It was a good run, drivers. Paid $37k for the truck 4 years and 500K miles ago. Truck paid for itself, paid for my lifestyle, and put some money in the bank. I was leased to CFI, a good truck company. "Truck Company," not a charity. I sold my '08 Columbia CL120 for $11K to a wholesaler out of Riverside, CA "for export." They came and got it, so I had no expenses on the sale, no registration, insurance, fuel, or other costs. Removed and mailed my Qualcomm and other items, will get full refund of Security Escrow.

Personally, owning your truck is the best way to go about this business. It's more complex, but not much. I earned a total of around $500K with that truck, drove about 265 days/year, or 9-10 days a month at home whenever I wanted. The truck was getting pretty old, 1,170,500 miles, so I sold it without a moment's doubt before the really expensive repairs started.

Over all, there's some things I'll be glad to leave behind, but more stuff I'll remember fondly. It's a good, solid way to earn a living if you just manage your affairs, keep up with tax deposits and don't spend money you don't have yet.

Thanks to all members who've given me useful, accurate information over these last 5 years. And for those who said I was doing it wrong, or could have done better, good luck to you.

So the OP made the big bucks as an O/O in 5 years. Go figure. And now he's retiring. What's the secret ? Let us in on it. Next adventure? Probably a truck payment on a new truck. Like said above, it's gets in your blood.
