I was offered a position out there on Wednesday, they wanted me there Monday, but I had taken a new position at a plant here in charleston not long before so the said they would hold my app for one year and if I changed my mind to give a call. That was nice of them but think I have landed a job I can retire at. Thanks for everyones help, I think I will only be driving part time here on out.

I would dare to bet that your app. is already in the trash and they have forgotten your name. That is the way things roll up here.18% of the load would probably be around $25@ hour.

Maybe it is. The company wasn't power fuels though, they paid 22 an hour and provided housing. It is cool though I am happy with my decesion and if doesn't work out I can always reapply.

    Hey there Driver,

First let me tell you that I am a 49 year old woman, that took up truck driving to survive. Prior to that I spent 13 years in Telecommunications and 6 years as as a Legal Secretary.... my ND experience follows:

I read your post back in September of 2010. I had just made it to ND from UT, where I had been driving for Swift doing dedicated Walmart loads. At that time I had only been driving truck for a year and 5 months, when I became so financially strapped I took a chance and came to Watford City, ND. I had a job within a day! It did not matter that I didn't have tanker experience or 2 years of driving experience. Just that I had a CDL with full endorsements. They are desperate for drivers up here.

But back to me reading your post, I was trying to gather as much information about my new job as possible, and your post helped. Especially since ND has now had a Historic record breaking worst winter ever in 2010/2011! And now we are experiencing record breaking flood levels. I carry a survival pack with me in the truck at all times, I have been stuck at more wellsites because of blizzards or because the wind drifted in the well site or lease road and I couldn't back out and have had to wait for hours or sometimes a day for a blade/front end loader to come dig me out, now its the mud I'm getting stuck in. And YES, you are out there in the middle of nowhere! And YES, you do get the bleep scared out of you! I've been scared so many times, I'm pretty much numb now. I travel Hwy 23 everyday from Watford City to New Town delivering loads, traffic is constant, the people are crazy and there are enough potholes and bumps along the way to make you a first class cusser! And that is just part of the insanity. You get to live in a trailer like most of the workers up here, because there isn't housing available. So you have to battle frozen water lines, (ya ya I know...didn't you skirt your trailer? ... yes I did! but at -20 to -40 even with a space heater under the trailer, it didn't matter), filling propane bottles every week, If someone didn't steal them off your trailer. 5 minute showers (if your water isn't frozen). Then there are the men that are in a constant rut and want to.... ya you get the picture. It's hard to go out and enjoy yourself. Image a prison yard of men that have not seen a woman in 10 years and your taking an innocent stroll across the yard, thats what it feels like at times. Then there is the food, most of the local convience stores and grocery store shelves are bare, they can't keep them stocked, even going to Walmart in Williston, the shelves have been picked over and are more often than not, bare. The cost of living? Outrageous! There is no denying that the money is great. But when your paying 6 bucks for a gallon of milk..... ya.

But I will say that my Boss has been awesome! He has lived up here all his life and he kept me going when I would have thrown in the towel and given up. I now have a new appreciation for my adaptability and survival skills. Its has been an experience worth living and not one soon forgotten. :yes2557:

Congratulations LittleMissSunshine! You have survived what many could not. I have looked at this, and at 54 I'm not sure if I have what it takes. For me failure or giving up is not an option, so I haven't done it. You are truly made out of what this country was founded on. Have you been able to save any money with all the high costs?

It will dry up soon and you will get to enjoy the flip side. Nice weather. Cool while the folks in Tx and such are 100+ and humid. And you have all summer to get ready for next winter if you stay. Good job !

Yes I have been able to recover financial. So far I have been able to average a little over $6,000 per month from January to May.(even with the weather conditions) But with the summer finally coming on, I should be able to increase that to 8k or 10k. ;-)
