Good evening all....
Well I am finally about to make the switch from JB and supposed to be going to Roehl on Monday. I gave my notice in yesterday and today I am being told by my FM that they require 2 weeks notice...to which I replied that when I was going to quit back in August I was told that they would not accept two weeks....he then also told me that it would possibly go on my DAC report....as I presume that Roehl have probably already checked that out then it wont affect me too much with them, but will it affect me in the future??? Does anyone out there think it is fightable (is that a word?????) and get removed from my DAC and is JB going to start to get a little vindictive (which I am presuming they can do so occasionally).
Also, get this......I have all of a sudden been selected for a 'random' drug screen, and I wonder just how 'random' that is....I pointed out to my FM that I am assuming that should I not go to it because I am quitting that there is a possibility that I would get hit with a refusal if I didn't go.....at least we have this forum to point out trucking companies little peccadillos......even if we dont have any legal remedies to them basically being able to completely ruin a persons opportunity to make a living within their chosen profession. With any other industry if there was a way of tapping into your work history there would be an outcry, but of course the poor old truck driver is fair game....
Oh well....thats my rant over and done with for today!
Thanks all and be safe
Some urgent advice needed please....

If you will pass the drug test, go get it done. You do NOT want a refusal of a drug test ANYWHERE in your record.
If you have been with JB longer than three months, you SHOULD give two weeks' notice to quit. It sucks and they'd probably not give you the same courtesy but if you want an immaculate record, you should give two weeks' notice.
Now, you could go to Roehl and tell them what's up and if they would be okay if you did NOT give JB any notice but I know Mike was told by his present employer that, if he had not stated, "I cannot start for two weeks because I have to give my present employer proper notice", they would have rescinded his employment offer.
They want to know you will accord them the same courtesy if you should ever quit working for them.
If there's any way you can give that two weeks' notice, you should. Better to CYA than get a bad DAC report of ANY kind - true or not. -

GO TO THE DRUG SCREEN!!!!!!!! You never want a refrusal or anything, at least then you have the paperwork!!!!!
As far as everything else, there really is not much they can do to you if you return the truck to the proper yard, give the keys to a responsible person, and clean it out. Two weeks notice is not mandetory. If it was there would be only half as many drivers as there is now. It is your right to quite unless tou signed contract.
I would inform Roehl maybe though, just to give them a heads up whats going on. I am not sure about that. I only have 7 years as a driver and I am on my 4th company. JB is notorious for messing with drivers. I have no proof of that except to say that it what is posted all over this site. I would want you to talk to an experienced driver on that.
I would do as much as possible to portect my DAC. CRE tried to mess with mine and I caught them doing it and fought and won. Be very careful.
I know that may not help much but keep everyone informed!!! -
Believe me, there is no way I wouldnt go to this drug screen!!! I just thought it kinda weird that I would be 'randomed' on the day I was leaving!!!

True, and they maybe messing with you a little. I hope you like your new job. I had a rough start in my career as well. I think I am better for it anyways.

Hubby pleaded with the company, knowing that he was going to be all doped up that morning, but they insisted that he get it done. So the nurse wheeled him over to the drug screen place, head slumped over and still out of it. And the gal took one look at him, asked what was going on, and immediately called corporate office and bit off a piece of HR's hind end. Her words "There is no way in h-e double toothpicks I am giving this man a drug screen today. Do you know that he just underwent a procedure and is under the influence of a sedative, as well as darvocet? Your going to kill this guys career with this drug screen!"
Of course she knew hubby, because thats the only place in town that does drug screens and he had been in many times for randoms with his other company and he was ALWAYS clean. She was so mad. -
When I and 20 other drivers quit JB, I did not give them anything but a couple days notice. They totally shafted me, I had no reason to give anything back to them - I certainly didn't want to train a new driver - which for that particular job took weeks before most people could go out on there own and do it properly, safely and actually be able to get it DONE. All of HOPED that particular contract would fail, and eventually it did - mostly because all of us quit and left them stranded.
If I had quit alone and everyone else had stayed -well, it wouldn't have amounted to much, but when almost every driver that serviced that particular contract quit - all I can say is there is power in numbers and I was laughing quite heartily about it, especially when I found out the huge loss they took.
BUT, if they would have asked me to pee in a cup, I would have done it just for the fact that I wouldn't have wanted it held against me in the future. At the point I told them I was quitting, they wanted rid of me anyway because I was one of the "big mouths" going around encouraging everyone to find a new job - EVERYONE had lost HUNDREDS of dollars per WEEK in pay, simply because some middle-management yodel came in and said we were making too much money.
My only regret in all of that was EVER signing on with JB Hunt. I should have listened to that inner voice telling me that that recruiter was full of s*** and was lying through his teeth. One thing I will say, I WAS making good money - AT FIRST. Like, $1,300 per week. At the same time, all of use were busting our butts- this particular job was quite physical and took a lot out of me and everyone else that was working it.
In the end, and after they lowered the wages and all of us quit - they definitely got what they were paying for. -
You are free to drink on your time off.

We honestly think that it was their way of trying to get rid of him, as it was the end of October, and the slow season was coming, and they were totally against anyone filing for unemployment. So, we believe that it was a set-up from the get go. Even the HR people INSISTED that he do the drug screen the same day, but yet he was not released to go back to work for 5 days, because of the procedure, and he couldn't strain himself.
