Hi to all.
first I must say "Thank you!" to all sharing your experience/advice in this forum. I've read a lot already but have not found post for anyone looking for job in my area.
In about a week I'll (hopefully) have CDL-A (Manual) that has been founded by local career place.
I'm in late 40's with some injuries, hence no flatbed for me. So van/reefer/tanks are probably better. No tickets / safe driver. No drugs/alcohol etc. Prefer to be home more than being away for months (I can hear already: "home?" lol)
I know and am aware that as a newbie/rookie I have not much of options. But I aslo know that there are still options. I don't give up easy and I do my research.
School gave me the short list with OTR, and longer list with local (but school is not local).
Their OTR are:
- Schneider (I've read here that only tankers are recommended).
- May Trucking (2h away) - not greatest reviews.
- Precise Movement Logistics - with not great FMCSA rating (and only 1 truck?)
- Melton (not into flatbeds)
......in progress of researching:
- Swift
- Western Express
- CR England
Was trying Amazon but they don't hire anywhere near-by, and there is 2 Amazon warehouses near-by.
I understand that as a newbie I need at least 6 months of experience to get better jobs.
I'd love to stay local/regional, but understand OTR might be the only option.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks!

@Chinatown will be along with some suggestions for you. But although many like to slam Swift and Schneider, either is a good place to get started and though Schneider tank doesn't pay as much as other tank outfits, their training is good and after a time the options will open up.
Better to stay away from Western Express as they a a second chance company and CR England won't pay much.Concorde, nextgentrucker and Chinatown Thank this. -
I have a pretty good list for San Diego new cdl school grads.
I'll find it and post.
Do you have a place to park the truck when on hometime?
