My son just got his permit last week and started "classes" at a local truck driving school in Fontana, CA. He came home completely frustrated and disappointed because there was no organization and the students were roaming around the truck yard trying to find a free instructor who might answer questions.
Well, they've got our money now, so I guess he will have to make the best of it. The confusing thing is that this school has all 5star reviews from tons of students who graduated and are driving for good companies. Is this just the standard for these schools?

That is one of the reasons schools are failing at training world class American Truckers.
My School in Baltimore Maryland "Diesel Institute" had 5 or 6 Instructors constantly, some were traveling 80 miles to show up to teach at 7 AM. After 4 months of weekends which devolved into competition as we all pretty much capped out our skills to the max and then began to take on instructors in rodeos for time etc.
Students should never have to hunt vanishing staff to ask questions.Jflo123, imgoingfwrd and CJ701 Thank this. -
Maybe it's your son and not the school.

Tell your son to tough it out and focus on himself. The main thing is to get his cdl; the real learning starts with his first company. He'll be ok as long as he keeps it in perspective, and that's to do whatever necessary to get that cdl and graduate from the school.
The next goal is to choose a good company to get his new career started.
Companies do have minimum age requirements, such as 21, 22, 23, so let us know if he falls into either category and we can recommend some good companies to get started with after he graduates.
Is the school 160 hrs. or how long is it?imgoingfwrd and CJ701 Thank this. -

He's already committed to the school, so just fight forward until he wins.

Here's another good one; this company has facilities in Calexico and Fontana.
Danny Herman Trucking - hires new cdl graduates.

Your son can start submitting online applications right now, before graduation. He'll get job offers and maybe this will motivate him to push the negative about the school aside and focus on the job offers and which one he wants.
Some websites may have "experience required" so ignore that and apply anyway because all those I list will hire new cdl graduates. -
