Spread axel truck - what is the purpose?

that's a Canadian spread. its used in Canada for their weight laws, that's all I know.

 

Funny thing is OP and I are both Canadian (at least I think OP is) and I still have yet to see a "Canadian Spread" in Canada lol.

 

I don’t know exactly what it gives you in Canada, but down here in the States it can increase your inner bridge if you’re running where it matters.

 

40k on the spread vs 34k closed?

 

Not enough distance between them to go 40 but might be able to do something over 34 on that group. But wouldn't help with your gross on just 5 axles. In most states anyway.

 

Just guessing - I’m unfamiliar with Canadian set ups.

 

A 6 foot spread on the axles is sometimes known as a “Canadian Spread” It is to increase the axle group rating. Supposed to allow 35k across the drives.
Don’t think it’s recognized in the US. Generally you would see this on some HH trucks. Canada has different bridge and kpra rules/laws.
