What do these haul and why the spread axle like the flatbeds? Are they allowed 40,000lbs on the rear axles?

I saw the diesel tank underneath and figured reefer of some sort.

Why the spread axle though? Delivering to a halfway point or some dropoff point?

I am new but I imagine backing one of those into a dock at any significant angle isn't all too smooth.

thats what they make the lift kits for. Lift that front axle when backing. The reason for the spreads are for the weight, 40,000 on the spread. For reefers that helps when hauling produce that has been packed in ice

There allowed 40,000lbs on the rear and the ride is much better than a closed tandem and if you have a dump on your back axel a spread will turn tighter then a closed tandem will and never have to worry about sliding your axel's for wheight transfer just load more toward the back and 99% of the time your good to go plus in some state's i now VT for 1 they will allow you 3% over if you have a spread.

Yeah you can load spreads heavy to the rear 40k, but come to states like LA, and
TX and you can't have more than 20k per axle.

And believe me they WILL split your axles on the scale to make sure your not over.

    Saddle Tramp Thanks this.

I hauled beer on an older air-ride spread axle. It was 12'6" tall, with a roll up door. I used that trailer on multi-stop pickups when load planning was difficult, or when no truck stop scale was available before the state scales.
