Well, Here I am. After going through all the hard work of trucking school, and passing my CDL exam, I'm ready to start getting paid for the driving I do!
I'd been thinking long and hard about where I was gonna go. My MVR and criminal background are clean as a whistle, and after asking a few family drivers and consulting with some drivers in this forum, it came down to two: Schneider and Super Service. I decided to go with Super Service for a few reasons that sounded good to me.
-$2500 sign on bonus (and yes, that's for student drivers as well. I'll take a bonus!)
-No forced NYC dispatch
-Minimum daily and weekend pay (which I still have yet to find out how much that pay is, but hey it's better than nothin!)
Anyways, I thought those were some good bonuses. Another bonus for me is that they are a smaller company than some of the larger truckload carriers out there. I was told by some family that the bigger they are, usually the worse they treat you. So anyhow, I'm scheduled to be at orientation Monday morning (it's Saturday now). I noticed that there aren't many recent threads on Super Service, so my goal is to provide everyone with accurate information regarding my experience with Super Service and let y'all know how everything goes. I'll be posting on here whenever I get a chance!
So far everything has gone smoothly with my recruiter, no major hiccups or anything, they seem to have themselves together pretty well. We'll see how the next few days go.
Regards,
Razor

Hopefully all will go well. This will be a good pace to get your feet wet.
I have not heard much good about them i.e home-time, and over all treatment from managers and dispatch.
Hopefully you will fair better than average . No-one I have talked to yet has actually ever received their $2500.00 sign on bonus.
They make it seemingly impossible to attain.
Get your year in and find something better....... -
keep a positive attitude, dont end up cutting yourself with razorblades! lol.
i guess thats one of the reasons why they are able to bring in so many recruits..2500 sounds like its alot, but im positive its split into small portions dependant on meeting certain benchmarks, you have to be there a yr or more to get the full amount. and across a year...2500 is NOT alot...but im sure it convinces alot of people to join on, or at least apply.
they have added benefits which is great..even still, pay is below "average" for experienced drivers. pay increases dont happen like they should. all whining aside...i should be around 54k this yr, home every weekend, but you need a dedicated run for something like that and thats still very rare..otherwise its home every other weekend.
i can honestly say things have gotten better, they are continuing to buy new trucks to replace the old onesLast edited: Nov 25, 2012

After the first day of orientation, I feel pretty good. The others had a lot of horror stories to report from other companies, and they were pleasantly surprised by how well we were treated. The trucks seem to be a little older than I had expected, but they're not horrible. Everybody is very friendly and considerate, and they answered all my questions patiently. I was also fed three very good meals. If the way I was treated today is any indication of how well I'll be treated come time for me to drive, I think I'll be very happy here.

Didn't Gainey put all their eggs in to the Super Service basket a few years ago because all of the Gainey companies were filing bankruptcy and what not, I know for a fact LCT now says Super Service as well as GTS, I don't know what that says for the company as a whole, but I do personally know that LCT wasn't much to speak of.

Gonna watch this thread close, they had a recruiter at Baker in Flint tonight. She made it sound good but we all know what a recruiters job is. Big Orange so far still seems to be the best for starting out.

Okay so I've been in training for almost two weeks now. I haven't had much time to get on here to do much, so I suppose an update is in order now that I finally have a minute. So far, I am extremely satisfied with how I've been treated here at Super Service. They've done EVERYTHING they said they would so far. The hotel room at orientation was clean and very roomy. We were made to feel very welcome on our first day. On the second day the CEO actually held video conference with us and the other terminals and welcomed us and told us a few things about the company. On my last day of orientation it was business as usual, finishing paperwork and such, and then off to our trainers or trucks, depending on the driver. I was supposed to go with a trainer. I had to wait for him since he had to come from where his last load was. Side note: They give you some preference on what kind of trainer you want. Smoking vs non smoking specifically, which is good. Another good thing I think is the trainers are paid a salary instead of theirs and your miles, so they're more motivated to train you instead of run you. Anyhow, I got my payroll sheet and they're starting me at 31 cpm, 32 after hazmat comes back. We have some slightly expensive benefits imo but from what I hear from family it's that way everywhere now with Obamacare and the economy.
Summary: I have no complains so far, We're being ran well, the trainer is very friendly and knows what he's doing, everybody in the company is friendly to one another and professional. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask em here. I'll answer them when I can get back to the thread.bseam Thanks this. -
Good Luck to everyone who signs on to Stupid Service, LLC. Coming out of orientation? if you're an experienced driver get ready for a dirty piece of junk with 800,000 miles. And then get ready to take it right back to the shop. Junk trailers too. Then there's no miles. They keep you out 10-12 days and I GUARANTEE you'll be sitting on the weekends. Be lucky to see 1300 -1400 miles a week.
