I'm building a flat bed straight truck and I have the choice to get a 30' flatbed. If I were to do this, I would be a foot and an inch over 40'. How picky are states to this 40' law. I will mostly be running around the Eastern and central states. Stupid question I'm sure and I will probably have to settle with a 28' bed but I thought I'd ask

I thought the rule was 45' for straight trucks?

45 does include the majority of the country, but unfortunately my area is dominated by 40 foot States. This is why I was wondering how strict these states maybe if I'm a foot over that limit

I would like to believe that but all it takes is one dot cop doing an inspection to whip out a tape measure and go "oh boy son! You are 12 inches too long! Here's an oos sticker and a $12,000 fine for operating this death trap in my state". Lol
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -

Some of those states actually train their DOT to visually identify over-length straight trucks. @brian991219 posted that somewhere, I think. He's a safety consultant from that part of the world, hopefully he can chime in.
25(2)+2 and brian991219 Thank this.
