As long as you can't see the steel belting, it's good to go.

Something about the shoulder not being critical also...

I wouldn't, but hey it's only a steer tire. What could go wrong?

you loose approx 1/32 every 10k miles. I think you can go a bit more on it.

I'll go ahead and swap it for a virgin new steers on both front tires. 1000 dollars is cheap versus a proper blow out that destroys the hood, slams you into the next three traffic lanes over going your way or going against the other side and so on. Getting yourself or someone killed. Or several someones.

I have to this day zero tolerance for steer flaws. If I can see something not quite good, it gets replaced that day at any price.

Now it's not that bad, my last good set of steers managed about 195000 miles in 9 months one year we had it as a team, when the original pair failed at 15000 due to belted defects from the factory that finally showed up on ice one day. When we turned in the truck, all the tires were just under half what it was.

Just in that spot? Looks like it is. Did, or were you in a place where you had to, or happen to, snap it off uneven concrete or a railroad rail..like in a mill of some kind? I take my pocket knife and check the depth of the split. If to deep..it gets removed. Have had many sorts of odd wear, but to me it looks like it was snapped off the edge of something.?

    Joetro and Tb0n3 Thank this.
