I wasn’t aware of the housing allowance program. That makes a huge difference.

I'm not sure if they still do it but TMC had an apprenticeship program when I hired on with them. Not sure if you like flatbed but they are home every weekend.

You are correct about TMC offering an apprenticeship program. They are one of the few that offers a 24 month program with a housing allowance of $1629.00 per month. I went to a hiring fair at Fort Belvoir VA and spoke with a TMC recruiter. They get good reviews, hire new drivers and have nice equipment. They even let you take home your truck so you don't have to run your own vehicle. Unfortunately for me, flatbed is not something I can handle as I don't think I can deal with the heavy tarps required.

I understand. Those lumber tarps are no joke. I think they were 40 lbs if I remember correctly.

That's what I was thinking, when I pulled flatbed in the early 1990's had two 24 ft heavy weight vinyl tarps guessing 65 lbs. or more each.
Tarps are probably made out of lighter material these days.

I had some 16x24s and some 16x26 that well over 80 lbs ,never weighed them but remember toting up a ladder to tarp wood crates. I think lumber traps are 4ft and 6 ft drop not as heavy never haul lumber.

my company sucked. 24’ x 27’ lumber tarps weighing in at 100lbs each. How many sets you want?
We had two sets lumber tarps. 2-3 steel tarps. Some idiot ordered 3’ drop steel tarps instead if 4’. So somethings didn’t get completely covered.

No one in the civilian world will treat me like I’m lesser than them, to include TMC staff. Everyone in that place needs a reality check as to who feeds them.

I could deal with 40lb tarps but I'm pretty sure TMC uses 80 to 100lb. Maybe when I was younger.
