Florida, especially South Florida is rough for truck drivers, especially new ones. Companies are hesitant, or even unwilling to bring in Florida drivers because it's too big of a monetary loss to send them home when the time comes. Lots of freight going in, cheap or no freight coming out. In order for companies to deal with Florida drivers, they'd have to do what my comp has done in the past: hire them, but require Florida drivers to do 6 to 8 weeks out before going home, then they'd expect them back out after 2 days. Most drivers don't take loads into Florida much. In 16 years of driving, I've only taken 9 loads there. If you have relatives in a more favorable hiring area, I'd suggest using their address to get started.

that was another question I was going to ask . I have family that lives in Texas . If I use there address to get hired how would I do when I want to come home for my 2 to 3 days off ? Or once I get hired can i then say I moved to Miami and still be able to keep my job?

You'll have to think outside of the box for hometime. If I'm in your shoes, I'd get routed to a terminal, and take a flight home and back. This wouldn't be a permanent way to do things, I'd just do it that way long enough to get some experience(at least a year), then you'll have a better chance at getting with a company that legit has a Florida presence, or is based in Florida. The biggest thing right now is to get you some experience.

If you Western will take you, you better get that job. You gotta get some seat time in order to get somewhere better.

Im willing to do that to get my experience . But let’s say once I get hired with a company and then tell them 2 months in I moved to Miami will they let me go or will they keep me as a driver ?

I really can't say. It all depends on how they feel about it and whether they'd be willing to work with you. I wouldn't be so quick to let them know that you're really in Miami. If it were me, I'd get in good with the company, show myself as reliable, because if you're a good driver, a company may be willing to work with you. It could take a few months to really build rapport with dispatch, especially with a mega.

Depends on the company. Prime might keep you because Prime has a terminal in Miami that hauls flowers.
As for other companies, they'll keep you if Miami is in the hiring area for that company.
    Amen to that. Good advice.

Got it . Also I have a open felony case for burglary but I was not convicted of the crime . It will be closed when I pay off the restitution . Is that something that company’s will hire me with or will that also make it difficult for me to get hired ?
