My little company I worked for had a small 1 man cdl school also.
The guy that did the training told me sense they started doing hair testing most of his people interested in the program were disqualified.
He wasn't happy about the testing because it went back to far.
This was up in Michigan where they legalized pot and everybody under the age of 40 thinks it’s their God given right to drive around on the roads Totally Baked out of their minds. -
The only Drivers who should worry are the ones who drink a lot or do drugs. It's a simple thing..'Stop' and 'Quit'..Any addiction in life will eventually cause problems. Safety should always be 1st for any driver on the roads especially Professional Drivers so I really don't see the big issue.

I read somewhere there are 3 and a 1/2 million CDL drivers employed.
300000 sounds like a huge number but you're really talking about less than 10%.
But the study did not take into account how many people will want to come into this industry and then decide not to or be disqualified because the test goes so far back.
If you lose 10% of the existing and 50% of those that would come in but do not I would imagine that would make a real shortage.
I know they are looking into it but along racial lines there are problems with testing and the way that racial things are going in this country now...
It may or may not come to be, but If certain groups complain about it it may squash it for good.
Certain groups have that kind of power apparently. -
The only thing I could see wrong with requiring hair testing is that historically it has had a much higher rate of false positives. Things such as ethnicity, hair color, and geographical location person has lived recently all have an effect on the testing process and results.

Study was paid for by the Trucking Alliance. Which is practically an arm of the ATA. All of the "Alliance" members are megas like Knight, JBH etc. Just another attempt to make us drivers seem like drug addicts in an attempt to get their way on hair testing. If the fed do approve it it will be tied up in courts for years.
BoxCarKidd, REO6205 and 650cat425 Thank this.
